What they need

Founded in 1946, we are a privately owned property services company delivering high-quality, innovative painting, planned investment, refurbishment and repair services to private- and public-sector customers nationwide.

As we continue to grow, we are looking for a Working Foreperson (previously known as Foreman) to join our Capital / Planned Maintenance team working across the West Midlands. Typical locations include Coventry , Warwick and Birmingham , with occasional work in Leicester. Our work makes a real difference. Operating in social housing and local authority residential settings , we offer long-term job security, meaningful career investment and the stability of secured frameworks and contracts. As a Working Foreperson, you will work as a skilled trade operative on residential wet room, kitchen and bathroom fitting projects. You will also oversee day-to-day site activities, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to the highest standard possible.

Benefits At Ian Williams, we offer more than just a job:

  • A competitive basic salary of £40,093 for a 39-hour working week
  • On-target earnings of up to £44,149, including bonus, travel and fare allowance
  • A company van and fuel card, plus travel expenses
  • Uniform and PPE provided at no cost, plus a PDA to help you manage your work effectively
  • Paid holiday, pension contributions and life insurance
  • Free legal and financial advice, as well as free counselling through the Lighthouse Charity

Our tradespeople don’t just join us — they stay with us. We don’t simply talk about career development ; we live it. Find out more in “Life at Ian Williams” below. The Working Foreperson Role

  • Work on the tools as part of a team completing wet room, kitchen and bathroom fitting projects, while supervising a directly employed trades team
  • Manage trade labour and team productivity each day, regularly reporting progress and job completion information to the Contracts Manager
  • Take responsibility for health and safety checks and reporting, including monitoring safe working practices, PPE, vans, tools and equipment
  • Deliver regular toolbox talks
  • Complete pre-work inspections and site set-ups, followed by post-inspections of completed work

What You Will Bring As a Working Foreperson

  • Experience as a Foreman or Foreperson, or as a Multi Operative with supervisory experience, together with a proven track record of managing social housing or similar sites
  • A minimum Level 2 NVQ, or equivalent, in a core trade such as carpentry, plumbing or multi-trade — essential. Specific experience fitting wet rooms is highly desirable
  • An SSSTS qualification would be advantageous, but is not essential
  • A CSCS Gold Card (Skilled Worker or Supervisor) is preferred
  • The ability to lead by example and motivate an experienced directly employed and subcontracted trade workforce
