What they need

Working Shop Foreman / Head Technician

Hands-On Fleet Shop Manager | Mechanical Repair & Body Shop

Location: Long Island City, Queens, NY | Employment: Full-time, on-site
Reports to: General Manager, working directly with ownership
Proposed compensation: $105,000–$125,000 annual base pay, plus performance-based bonus.

Prior NYC taxi-garage experience strongly preferred. This is a working leadership position for an experienced
mechanic who can diagnose difficult repairs, direct a busy team and keep vehicles moving safely through the
shop—not a desk-only manager or service-writer role.

About WB Taxi
WB Taxi owns, maintains and repairs a fleet of approximately 400 NYC yellow taxis and manages more than 400 taxi
medallions for medallion owners. Our Long Island City operation supports more than 1,000 active drivers and includes
full-service mechanical repair and body shops operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

We need a dependable, high-energy shop leader who understands the pace of a working taxi garage. The objective is
straightforward: keep the team productive, complete repairs correctly and return safe, dependable vehicles to service
with as little avoidable downtime as possible.

What you will own

Run the shop floor. Review vehicles awaiting work, set priorities, assign jobs by technician skill and keep bays moving.
Balance urgent repairs, preventive maintenance, inspections and longer jobs. Identify delays early and make sure each
down vehicle has an assigned technician, a next step and a realistic completion estimate.

Serve as the head technician. Personally diagnose difficult mechanical, electrical and drivability problems; assist with
repairs; and coach technicians through troubleshooting. Be capable of checking a diagnosis, identifying the root cause
and preventing unnecessary parts replacement. Stay involved on the floor while keeping oversight of the whole shop.

Lead and hold the team accountable. Give clear instructions, monitor progress and workmanship, train mechanics and
helpers, and address attendance and productivity issues promptly and respectfully. Coordinate coverage and shift
handoffs, and recommend staffing or performance actions to management.

Control parts, maintenance and repair records. Coordinate parts ordering and availability, follow up on delays, track
warranties and returns, and keep accurate work orders. Organize preventive maintenance and identify recurring
failures, excessive repair costs and repeat work. Escalate major repair-versus-replacement decisions to management.

Coordinate body work and taxi preparation. Keep collision repairs, body work, reassembly and mechanical repairs
coordinated with the appropriate staff and vendors. Track vehicle preparation and taxi-equipment installation (hack-
up), inspection readiness and rechecks. Coordinate work on wheelchair-accessible vehicles and their equipment with
qualified personnel.

Own quality, safety and communication. Verify repairs and arrange appropriate road tests before release. Do not
return an unsafe vehicle to service to meet a deadline. Enforce safe equipment use and an orderly shop. Give the
General Manager a clear daily update on vehicles down, completed repairs, parts shortages, unresolved problems and
expected return-to-service times.

Required qualifications

Substantial hands-on automotive repair experience, including strong diagnostic ability, plus demonstrated experience
directing mechanics in a busy shop. You must be able to use diagnostic equipment and service information, check
other technicians’ work, organize competing priorities and follow jobs through to completion.

We are looking for consistent work pace, sound judgment, reliable attendance and follow-through. You must
communicate clearly with technicians, drivers and management; maintain basic digital repair records; and be
comfortable working in a demanding, high-volume garage. A valid driver’s license is required for vehicle movement
and road testing. Essential shop duties must be performed safely, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Experience that stands out

Prior experience as a foreman, head mechanic or working manager in an NYC yellow-taxi garage is strongly preferred.
Relevant experience with livery, rideshare, rental-car or other high-mileage light-duty fleets is also valuable. Toyota
and hybrid diagnostics, wheelchair-accessible vehicles, body-shop coordination, TLC inspection preparation and taxi
hack-ups are especially useful.

Experience leading a diverse, multilingual team is a plus. A college degree or luxury-dealership background is not
required. We value proven repair knowledge, leadership and results.

Schedule and working environment

This is a demanding, full-time, on-site role supporting a 24/7 fleet—not a standard desk job. Long shifts, extended
hours during heavy workloads, weekend coverage and scheduled after-hours escalation are part of the position. The
regular workweek, expected hours and coverage arrangements will be agreed before an offer. Shop coverage is
coordinated with management and other staff; one person is not expected to cover every shift.

How success will be measured

Fewer avoidable vehicle-down days; dependable repair completion times; fewer repeat repairs; timely preventive
maintenance and inspection preparation; productive technicians; accurate records; and controlled parts and repair
costs. Speed and savings never take priority over safe, correct repairs.

How to apply

Apply through this posting with a resume or a clear summary of your work history. Include the garages or fleets where
you worked, your responsibilities, the number of technicians you supervised, your strongest diagnostic skills and your
availability. Specifically identify any NYC taxi-garage experience. Professional references may be requested.

WB Taxi is an equal opportunity employer. Applicants are evaluated on job-related qualifications and ability to perform the essential
duties, with reasonable accommodations where required.
