Works Assistant – Road Construction | Hay

Location: Hay, NSW
Pay Rate: $50.13 per hour + super
Contract: ASAP – 6 November 2026
Hours: 8.5 hours per day | 76 hours per fortnight
Roster: 9-day fortnight

APG Workforce is currently seeking an experienced and reliable Works Assistant to join a road construction team based in Hay, NSW.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone with civil construction or road maintenance experience who is comfortable undertaking labouring duties, working around live traffic and operating as part of a close-knit team.
About the Role Working under limited supervision, you will undertake a range of advanced non-trade and construction support activities to required quality and safety standards.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Undertaking general civil construction and labouring duties as required
• Completing assigned work to specified quality standards and tolerances
• Working independently and as part of a construction team
• Identifying and resolving routine issues using established procedures and guidelines
• Working safely in close proximity to traffic
• Applying WHS legislation, policies and procedures in the workplace
• Understanding and meeting quality requirements for assigned tasks
• Participating in team meetings and contributing ideas for continuous improvement
• Communicating effectively with members of the public, contractors and other staff
• Providing guidance and on-the-job assistance to other team members where required
• Using computer systems as required for day-to-day duties

About You
To be considered for this position, you will ideally have:

• Construction Industry White Card
• Current WOF ticket, or willingness to obtain one prior to commencement
• Current C Class Driver Licence or higher
• Previous experience in civil construction, roadworks, maintenance or a similar environment
• Ability and willingness to undertake physical labouring duties
• Ability to work safely in close proximity to traffic
• Sound computer knowledge and skills
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team
• Good understanding of workplace health and safety requirements
• Flexibility to work outside standard hours and travel when required

A Police Check will also be required for this position.

Travel & Accommodation The position is based from the Hay Depot, and candidates will be responsible for arranging their own accommodation while working locally. Accommodation options can be discussed with suitable candidates.

There may also be occasions where you are required to camp away from Hay for work. When this occurs, accommodation will be provided and applicable allowances will be paid.
