Workshop engineer/Workshop Manager

Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced Workshop Engineer to oversee and coordinate day-to-day workshop and fabrication activities. The role will be responsible for ensuring that production is completed safely, efficiently, and according to approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, and project schedules.

The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience in steel fabrication, structural steel, welding, cutting, fit-up, assembly, production planning, manpower coordination, and workshop operations.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily workshop and steel fabrication activities, ensuring production targets and project schedules are achieved.
• Read and interpret engineering, fabrication, GA, and shop drawings, ensuring accurate cutting, fit-up, welding, drilling, assembly, and finishing.
• Allocate and supervise manpower, materials, machinery, tools, fabricators, welders, fitters, and machine operators to ensure efficient workshop operations.
• Monitor production progress, material consumption, quality, dimensions, tolerances, and rework, minimizing wastage, delays, and production losses.
• Coordinate with QA/QC, Planning, Engineering, Procurement, Maintenance, and Project teams to resolve technical and production issues and ensure specification compliance.
• Ensure proper operation and maintenance of fabrication machinery, welding equipment, lifting equipment, and workshop tools, while maintaining accurate production and progress records.
• Ensure compliance with HSE requirements, PPE, safe working procedures, and workshop standards, while supporting continuous improvement in productivity, quality, cost, and delivery performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's/Diploma degree in Mechanical, Production, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 3–7 years of relevant experience in workshop engineering, production engineering, or steel fabrication, preferably in structural/heavy steel fabrication.
• Strong ability to read and interpret fabrication, engineering, GA, and shop drawings, with knowledge of welding processes such as MIG/MAG, TIG, SMAW/ARC, and SAW.
• Hands-on experience with CNC cutting, drilling, bending, fabrication machinery, along with knowledge of QA/QC procedures and HSE requirements.
• Proficiency in MS Office and production reporting systems; experience in GCC/UAE fabrication workshops will be an advantage.
