What they need

About Us

We are a Mechanical Engineering firm that carries out projects ranging from the small to the very large in the Pharmaceutical, Petrochemical, Food & Beverage and Building Services sectors. We provide end-to-end supply and installation of pipework systems and process drainage, supported by a highly skilled workforce.

Position Summary

The Workshop General Foreman role is a highly versatile and hands-on position, responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities within a busy Wexford-based facility. No two days are the same, with the role covering a broad range of mechanical work, maintenance, repairs, fabrication, stock control and general workshop activities.

This is not a purely supervisory position — during quieter periods, the Workshop General Foreman is expected to chip in and work hands-on alongside the team, helping to keep the workshop productive and supporting the wider operation.

Key Responsibilities

1. Operations & Staff Management

  • Direct Supervision: Act as the primary point of contact and authority for all personnel operating within the workshop.
  • Performance Management: Monitor daily output to ensure work is completed to technical specifications and project timelines.
  • Mentorship & Training: Oversee the onboarding of new staff and ensure all team members are competent in the use of workshop machinery and safety procedures.
  • Quality Control: Conduct final inspections on all work produced by the team before it is dispatched to site, ensuring it meets company quality standards.

2. Project & Site Support

  • Lead internal development projects and fabrication tasks within the workshop.
  • Manage the preparation and inventory of containers, ensuring all necessary tools and equipment are loaded and ready for site deployment.
  • Coordinate the logistics of equipment dispatch and return.

3. Maintenance & Inventory

  • Manage workshop stock levels, including consumables, raw materials, and spare parts.
  • Implement and oversee a preventative maintenance schedule for all machinery and fleet equipment.
  • Ensure the workshop environment is organised, efficient, and clean.

4. Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all machines, hand tools, and storage areas remain fully compliant with Irish Health & Safety regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and maintain documentation (risk assessments, tool logs, etc.).
  • Enforce strict adherence to PPE requirements and workshop safety protocols.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 5+ years in a mechanical engineering or fabrication workshop environment with 3 years foreman experience.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead a team and foster a productive work culture.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of mechanical piping systems, fabrication processes, and equipment maintenance.
  • Safety Focused: In-depth knowledge of H&S standards (e.g., HSA requirements, machinery guarding, manual handling).
  • Logistics: Ability to manage stock inventory and project-specific logistics.
  • Licensing: Full, clean driving license required.

Competencies

  • Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues on-site or in the shop under pressure.
  • Organization: Strong aptitude for managing multiple work streams and inventory tracking.
  • Communication: Clear, professional communication style for dealing with management, project managers, employees and external stakeholders.
