Working Hours:

• 45 hours per week
• Monday to Thursday: 07:00 – 17:00 (Includes a 30-minute unpaid lunch break)
• Friday: 07:00 – 14:00 (Straight-through early finish for the weekend)

About the Role:

We are looking for a reliable, hard-working Workshop Labourer to join our engineering and road tanker manufacturing facility in Leeming Bar.

This is a hands-on, highly varied role where your daily focus will shift depending on current workshop priorities and production schedules. While your primary and most important task will be grinding, blending, and polishing the longitudinal and circumferential welded seams on road tankers, no two days are quite the same. You will be expected to adapt flexibly to keep the shop floor moving efficiently—whether that means finishing vessels, helping the fabrication team, washing down vehicles, or heading out in the van for a parts collection.

Full training will be provided for the right candidate—a strong work ethic, reliability, and a flexible, willing attitude are far more important than extensive prior experience.

Key Responsibilities:

• Seam Finishing (Core Duty): Grinding, fettling, blending, and polishing longitudinal and circumferential vessel weld seams using handheld grinders, sanders, and finishing tools to achieve high standards.
• Chemical Weld Treatment: Safely pickling and passivating welds in line with COSHH standards and company health & safety procedures.
• Driving & Errands: Operating company vans as needed to collect and drop off materials, parts, or equipment with local suppliers.
• Vehicle Preparation & Wash: Working on the wash bay cleaning down tanker vessels, chassis, running gear, and components.
• General Workshop Support: Assisting welders, fabricators, and fitters with manual handling, positioning components, and practical shop floor tasks.
• Yard & Site Housekeeping: Unloading incoming deliveries, moving materials, keeping yard areas organized, and ensuring walkways remain safe and clear.
• General Duties: Carrying out any other reasonable workshop and yard duties as required by production demand.

What We’re Looking For:

• Full UK Driving Licence (essential for driving company vans).
• Flexibility and adaptability—happy to move between tasks as workshop priorities change day to day.
• Practical, hands-on mindset with the physical stamina needed for active shop and yard work.
• Excellent reliability and timekeeping.
• Prior experience with power tools (angle grinders, orbital sanders) or working in a fabrication/manufacturing environment is an advantage, but not essential.
• Previous Forklift Truck (FLT) experience is beneficial, but internal training and site authorization will be completed here.
• Good safety awareness around heavy machinery, dust, and PPE.
