What they need
Petone Engineering is a well-established structural steel company based in Seaview, Lower Hutt. We deliver a wide range of commercial and infrastructure projects throughout the wider Wellington region and are seeking a Workshop Logistics Coordinator to join our busy team.
This is a hands-on role responsible for keeping our workshop moving by ensuring steel, materials, consumables and equipment are in the right place at the right time. You will own the physical flow of materials from processing through fabrication to dispatch, staying ahead of what our fabricators need and ensuring completed work is properly batched, staged and ready for delivery. This is not your typical 9 to 5 job, a level of flexibility is required to meet production requirements.
What we offer
- Competitive pay rates
- Ongoing stable workload
- Modern workshop and equipment
- Supportive team environment
- Opportunity to work across a variety of structural steel projects
Key responsibilities
- Stay ahead of fabrication requirements, ensuring fabricators have the correct materials, consumables and equipment before they need them
- Coordinate the movement of steel and materials through processing, fabrication and dispatch
- Ensure incoming materials are identified and batched with the correct jobs, ready for the next stage of production
- Work closely with Processing and the Workshop Foreman to understand what is needed next and keep production moving
- Identify and remove bottlenecks by moving materials quickly and responding to changing workshop priorities
- Batch, label and stage completed assemblies, loose components and allocated stock ready for dispatch
- Remove completed work, scrap and unnecessary materials from fabrication areas
- Maintain a high standard of 5S and workshop organisation – everything in its place
- Identify missing materials or workflow issues early and communicate these before they impact production
- Operate forklifts and gantry cranes and safely handle and move steel and other materials
Skills and experience
- Previous experience in workshop logistics, manufacturing, warehousing, structural steel or a similar heavy-industry environment would be an advantage
- Forklift and gantry crane experience preferred
- Experience with safe material handling, slinging and rigging would be beneficial
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- Able to identify materials and keep jobs and components organised and traceable
- Good communication skills and ability to work closely with different areas of the workshop
- Reliable, practical and able to take ownership of getting things done
- Resourceful and able to solve problems without needing constant direction
- Physically fit and comfortable working in a hands-on, fast-moving workshop environment
- Strong commitment to workplace health and safety
Applicants must have the legal right to work in New Zealand or be eligible to obtain a suitable work visa.
To apply, please submit your CV and a brief cover letter outlining your experience and suitability for the role.
