Workshop / Service Manager

About the role

Superior Machinery Maintenance is looking for an experienced Workshop / Service Manager to take ownership of the day-to-day operation of our busy vehicle maintenance workshop in the Mt Isa region. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who understands cars and trucks, knows how a productive workshop should operate, and has the confidence to manage a team of approximately 10 technicians including apprentices. You will lead people, plan work, maintain high standards, communicate with customers and make sure the workshop runs efficiently and professionally.

Key responsibilities

• Managing and supporting approximately 10 technicians including apprentices
• Planning and allocating workshop jobs on a daily basis
• Monitoring workloads, job progress and technician efficiency
• Conducting regular toolbox meetings
• Ensuring technicians remain up to date with required manufacturer and brand training modules
• Carrying out regular staff performance reviews and providing constructive feedback
• Checking completed vehicles to ensure repairs have been carried out correctly and workmanship meets standards
• Providing customers with regular updates on the progress of their vehicle
• Monitoring quoted costs against actual repairs and contacting customers before proceeding with work that will exceed an approved quote
• Overseeing the operation of the spare parts function including ensuring parts and stock are managed correctly and conducting regular stocktakes

About you

• Experienced with cars and trucks
• Comfortable leading technicians and apprentices
• Highly organised and capable of managing multiple jobs at once
• A strong communicator with both customers and workshop staff
• Confident making decisions and holding people accountable
• Commercially aware and conscious of labour efficiency, parts costs and job profitability
• Focused on quality and customer service
• Fair, consistent and professional when managing staff
• Proactive rather than waiting for problems to arise
• Previous experience as a Workshop Manager, Service Manager, Workshop Foreman, Leading Hand or Senior Technician would be highly regarded
