For more than 60 years, Drake has been synonymous with innovation, quality and reliability in Australia's heavy transport industry. As an industry-leading manufacturer and service provider, we support some of the country's largest transport operators through the servicing, repair and overhaul of heavy haulage trailers.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a trade-qualified leader who enjoys developing people, driving workshop performance and maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.

Why Join The Drake Group?

  • Join a proudly Australian, family-owned business with an outstanding reputation.
  • Lead a skilled and supportive workshop team.
  • Work with premium products that are recognised as industry benchmarks.
  • Be supported by an experienced Branch Manager and National leadership team.
  • Genuine opportunity to influence workshop performance and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Stable, full-time permanent position with long-term career opportunities.

About the Role

Reporting to the Branch Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership of the Service & Repair workshop, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.

This is a hands-on supervisory role where you'll spend time on the workshop floor supporting your team, coordinating workflows, maintaining quality standards and ensuring customer expectations are exceeded.

You will play a key role in mentoring tradespeople and apprentices, building team capability and fostering a positive safety-first culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule and coordinate workshop activities to achieve customer deadlines.
  • Supervise service and repair work to ensure quality, efficiency and compliance standards are met.
  • Conduct in-process and final quality inspections.
  • Monitor labour utilisation, job progress and productivity.
  • Allocate work effectively based on technician capability and workload.
  • Lead daily pre-start meetings and toolbox talks.
  • Mentor, coach and develop tradespeople and apprentices.
  • Support customer enquiries and maintain professional customer relationships.
  • Work closely with the Branch Manager, Parts team and Administration to ensure smooth workshop operations.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, efficiency gains and sales growth.

About You

You are a proactive leader who enjoys being part of the action and leading from the front.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Trade qualification as a Mechanical Fitter, Heavy Vehicle Mechanic or similar.
  • Previous workshop supervisory or leading hand experience.
  • Strong knowledge of heavy vehicle, trailer, service and repair operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring apprentices and developing tradespeople.
  • Strong understanding of QA processes and final inspection requirements.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Commitment to workplace health and safety.
  • A positive, solutions-focused attitude with strong organisational skills.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary package based on skills and experience.
  • Permanent full-time employment.
  • Supportive and collaborative team culture.
  • Opportunity to work with some of Australia's most recognised heavy transport equipment.
  • Career development opportunities within a growing National organisation.
