This is a key position that will see you working closely with Foremen, Leading Hands, Tradespeople, Apprentices, Project Engineers, Estimators, and the wider Production Team to ensure fabrication and manufacturing activities are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard.

The role is hands-on and varied, involving production planning, workflow management, people leadership, performance monitoring, continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring workshop resources are effectively utilised to meet operational objectives.

We are looking for a motivated person who can build high-performing teams, drive productivity, and promote a strong culture of safety, quality, and accountability.

About You

You will ideally have:

  • A New Zealand Certificate in Engineering – Fabrication (Level 4), recognised trade qualification, or equivalent industry experience as a time-served tradesperson.
  • ASME IX or AS/NZS 1554 welding qualifications, or the ability to obtain these.
  • A minimum of 7 years' experience in heavy fabrication, structural steel fabrication, pipe fabrication, manufacturing, or industrial maintenance environments.
  • Proven experience supervising workshop, fabrication, manufacturing, or production teams.
  • Strong experience planning, coordinating, and monitoring production activities against budgets and schedules.
  • Demonstrated experience leading, mentoring, and developing tradespeople, Leading Hands, and Apprentices.
  • Strong fabrication and welding knowledge with the ability to interpret fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and technical specifications.
  • Excellent planning, organisational, and resource management skills.
  • Strong troubleshooting, fault-finding, and problem-solving capability.
  • Experience working with quality systems, welding procedures, and QA/QC requirements.
  • A commitment to workplace health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and production reporting systems.
  • Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, or productivity improvement initiatives would be beneficial.

Why Us?

  • Competitive remuneration based on qualifications and experience.
  • Permanent, full-time employment.
  • Opportunity to lead a skilled fabrication and manufacturing workforce.
  • Be part of one of New Zealand's largest and most capable heavy fabrication facilities.
  • Diverse and challenging projects across multiple industries.
