Workshop Supervisor – Metal Fabrication & Structural Engineering

We are looking for an experienced Workshop Supervisor to take ownership of our busy metal fabrication workshop.

This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone with a strong background in general engineering, heavy structural steel fabrication and large-diameter pipework, who knows how to get a job out the door safely, correctly and on time.

We work withTier 1 contractors on major infrastructure projects, along with a range of general engineering, structural and heavy fabrication work.

The Role

You will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the workshop, ensuring our team, projects and resources are organised and productive.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Supervising and coordinating workshop operations and fabrication crews.
• Planning and prioritising jobs to meet project deadlines.
• Allocating labour, materials and equipment effectively.
• Reading and interpreting engineering, structural and fabrication drawings.
• Overseeing heavy structural fabrication and large-diameter pipework.
• Ensuring fabrication meets drawings, specifications and project requirements.
• Managing QA/QC processes and documentation.
• Ensuring CC2 / CC3 requirements and documentation are properly managed.
• Monitoring quality, workmanship and production throughout each project.
• Identifying and resolving issues before they impact delivery.
• Coordinating trades, labour and subcontractors.
• Maintaining a safe, clean and productive workshop.
• Working closely with management, engineers and project managers.
• Communicating progress, issues and potential delays.

What We're Looking For

We're after someone who can lead from the front and isn't afraid to get involved.

You will have:

• Proven experience as a Workshop Supervisor, Leading Hand or Senior Fabricator/Boilermaker.
• Strong experience in heavy metal fabrication and general engineering.
• Proven structural steel fabrication experience.
• Experience with large-diameter pipework.
• Strong ability to read and interpret engineering and fabrication drawings.
• Sound knowledge of QA/QC processes.
• Experience with CC2 / CC3 structural requirements and documentation preferred but not essential.
• Good computer skills and confidence with Microsoft Office and workshop/project management systems.
• Strong planning, organisation and time-management skills.
• The ability to manage multiple jobs and competing priorities.
• Strong communication and people-management skills.
• A practical, problem-solving approach.
• A strong focus on quality, safety and getting the job done right the first time.

Trade Background

A trade qualification in Boilermaking, Welding, Fabrication will be highly regarded.

Experience working on infrastructure projects for Tier 1 contractors will be advantageous.
