X-ray Technologist

Position: Full time, Part time, or Per-diem x-ray technologist for Orthopaedic Surgeon private practice

RESPONSIBLE TO: Physician/Practice Administrator

JOB SUMMARY: Performs x-ray procedures under the order of Physician or Physician Assistant. Transfers images to exam room computer. Obtains authorization for specialized x-ray procedures. Completes other paperwork as needed.

EDUCTION REQUIREMENTS:

• Graduate of an accredited x-ray technologist program
• Has certification

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum two years experience in specialized field*
• Computerized radiology technology experience helpful**
• Comfortable using email and interacting with Internet applications**
• Knowledge of practice management and word processing software**
• Knowledge with EMR**
• Working knowledge of managed care basics**
• Pleasant speaking voice and demeanor**
• Good communication skills**
• Neat, professional appearance**
• Knowledge to burn studies to new CD.RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:*

• Escort patients from waiting room to exam rooms*
• Explain testing to patient to make them comfortable**
• Transfer x-ray image to appropriate exam room**
• Follow HIPAA guidelines to protect patient confidentiality**
• Maintains appropriate maintenance schedule per manufacturer’s directions for hardware and software**
• Properly wears safety exposure badge**
• Covers front desk position when needed**
• Pre certifies MRI/Bone scan procedures with insurance companies**
• Obtains signature from MD for Physical Therapy forms and faxes completed form to proper organization**
• Completes other paperwork as needed**
• Working knowledge of medical assistant position and covers prn.**
• Handles laboratory specimens according to CLIA guidelines**
• Follows sterilizations techniques**
• Prepares CDs for surgical date along with appropriate paperwork**
• Track scheduled MRIs to be certain we have follow up reports*

Other

• Maintains patient confidentiality; complies with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by the practice
• Maintains detailed knowledge of practice management and other computer software as it relates to job functions
• Performs all other tasks and projects assigned by physician or practice administrator

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position currently has no supervisory responsibilities

Typical Physical Demands

Position requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Involves standing and walking. Employee will occasionally be asked to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds. Normal visual acuity and hearing are required. Employee will work under stressful conditions, and work irregular hours. Employee will be exposed to bodily fluids on a regular basis.

Typical Working Condition

Employee will have frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a physician’s environment.
