Key Responsibilities

• Convert and structure book and journal content into XML in accordance with publisher and client specifications.
• Create, edit, and maintain XML documents using standard publishing DTDs and schemas.
• Perform accurate XML tagging and content structuring to ensure consistency and compliance with publishing standards.
• Validate XML files against DTDs, schemas, and business rules, identifying and resolving validation errors.
• Work with industry-standard publishing DTDs such as JATS, DocBook, and client-specific XML models.
• Conduct quality assurance checks to verify the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of XML content.
• Troubleshoot and resolve XML conversion, tagging, and formatting issues.
• Collaborate with Editorial, Digital Production, Project Management, and Technology teams to ensure seamless workflow integration and timely project delivery.
• Maintain project documentation and adhere to established production processes, quality standards, and client requirements.
• Contribute to workflow improvements, automation initiatives, and process optimization to enhance productivity and quality.

Required Skills

• Minimum 2 years of experience in XML production within the publishing or ePublishing industry.
• Strong knowledge of XML, DTDs, XML schemas, and structured content tagging.
• Hands-on experience with book and journal XML workflows.
• Familiarity with publishing standards such as JATS, DocBook, and client-specific DTDs.
• Proficiency with XML editing tools such as Oxygen XML Editor, XMLSpy, or equivalent applications.
• Experience validating XML files and resolving structural and syntax errors.
• Good understanding of publishing workflows and content conversion processes.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with XSLT, XPath, XQuery, or related XML technologies.
• Exposure to automation tools, scripting, or macros for XML processing.
• Familiarity with HTML, CSS, EPUB, and digital publishing workflows.
• Basic understanding of accessibility standards and semantic content structuring.
• Experience working with international publishers and STM or educational publishing content.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in any discipline.
• Candidates with a technical, publishing, or computer science background will be preferred.
