What they need
ob Description:
Role overview
A hands-on position combining daily timber yard and warehouse work with customer service, quotations, sales order processing and stock administration. Working alongside the Branch Manager, the successful candidate will take ownership of order accuracy, stock movements and the safe, efficient running of the warehouse. This is an active working role, not a desk-based management position.
Quotations, sales orders & customer service
Prepare and issue customer quotations in the system, checking prices, product specifications and stock availability.
Enter, process and amend sales orders accurately in the system, from initial enquiry through to collection or dispatch.
Handle telephone, counter and trade customer enquiries, including pricing, stock checks and order progress updates.
Follow up outstanding quotations and orders, and liaise with the Branch Manager on customer requirements and sales opportunities.
Prepare and check relevant collection and delivery paperwork, ensuring quantities and products match customer orders.
Stock control & administration
Check stock availability in our system and maintain accurate records of goods received, stock movements and adjustments.
Receive and book in deliveries, verify quantities, sizes and condition against supplier paperwork, and report shortages or damage.
Carry out regular stock counts, investigate discrepancies and notify branch management of low-stock or replenishment requirements.
Keep hardwoods, plywood, MDF and other sheet materials correctly identified, organised and stored.
Hands-on yard & warehouse operations
Operate a forklift to safely unload suppliers’ lorries and load customer vehicles and delivery trucks.
Physically pick, measure, check and prepare timber and sheet material orders for collection and delivery.
Assist trade customers collecting goods and ensure loads are handled safely and correctly.
Maintain a clean, safe and organised warehouse, including safe stacking and general housekeeping.
Work independently, prioritise daily tasks and support colleagues and the Branch Manager as required.
Experience & attributes
Practical experience in a yard, warehouse, factory, timber merchant or similar environment; timber knowledge is an advantage, not essential.
Forklift experience preferred; valid certification desirable.
Comfortable using computers for quotations, sales orders and stock records; Biztrak training can be provided.
Accurate with measurements, quantities and paperwork; dependable, safety-conscious and willing to do physical work.
Friendly and professional with customers, with the initiative to handle day-to-day tasks.
Other reasonable duties appropriate to the branch may be assigned by management.
