Yard Hand

We are seeking a reliable, hardworking and safety-focused Yard Hand to assist with the day-to-day operation and upkeep of our busy yard.

This is a varied, hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working outdoors, operating machinery (excavator and forklift) and taking pride in keeping a workplace clean and organised.

Key Responsibilities

• Reporting directly the Workshop Foreman
• Keep the yard and warehouses clean, organised and safe at all times.
• Sort, separate and manage waste and recyclable materials into designated areas.
• Operate an excavator or forklift to sort, move and load waste materials into trucks and bins.
• Assist with loading and unloading trucks, equipment and materials as required.
• Maintain designated storage areas and ensure materials and equipment are stored correctly.
• Carry out general yard and warehouse maintenance and housekeeping duties.
• Undertake basic landscaping and grounds maintenance, including lawn mowing, pruning, weeding and general garden maintenance.
• Assist the Workshop Foreman with organising, storing, cleaning and maintaining tools, trucks and equipment as requested.
• Assist with checking tools in and out and ensuring they are returned to their designated storage areas.
• Report damaged or faulty tools, equipment or machinery to the Workshop Foreman.
• Assist workshop and operational staff with general duties when required.
• Follow company procedures and maintain a strong commitment to workplace health and safety.

About You

We are looking for someone who is dependable, proactive and willing to learn and get involved wherever needed.

The successful applicant will ideally have:

• Previous experience working in a yard, construction, demolition, recycling or similar environment.

• Understanding of the tools and equipment used in the construction and demolition industry

• Good organisational skills and the ability to keep work areas clean and orderly.

• A practical, hands-on attitude and willingness to undertake a variety of tasks.

• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

• Good communication skills and a reliable work ethic.

• Current Australian driver's licence.

• White Card

• Experience operating excavators and other plant or machinery is an advantage; however, training will be provided for the right applicant

• A good understanding of safe plant operation and workplace safety. Training will be provided for the right applicant

The Role

This is a varied position where no two days are exactly the same. You may be operating an excavator and sorting materials one part of the day, assisting the workshop with tools and equipment the next, or carrying out general maintenance around the yard.

We are looking for someone who takes ownership of the yard, notices what needs to be done and gets on with the job without needing constant direction.
