Yard Hand

Location: Wellington NZ

Job Details: Fixed-Term Contract (Until March 2027) | Full-Time (Great for people finishing school or in between semesters at university)

Our story

At Inchcape, we are a global leader in automotive distribution and retail, representing some of the world's most recognised vehicle brands. Through Inchcape Automotive Retail New Zealand, we deliver exceptional customer experiences across our LDV dealership network, supporting customers throughout their ownership journey.

About the role

We're looking for a motivated and reliable Yard Hand to join our Wellington team and play a key role in ensuring vehicles are presented to the highest standard while supporting the day-to-day operations of the dealership.

This is a hands-on role that combines vehicle detailing, yard coordination and vehicle logistics. You'll be responsible for preparing vehicles for customer delivery, maintaining vehicle presentation standards, organising vehicle movements and supporting the smooth operation of the dealership yard.

Working closely with the Sales and Service teams, you'll ensure vehicles are clean, fuelled, correctly parked and ready when needed. From detailing vehicles to coordinating stock movements and assisting with dealership operations, you'll play an important role in creating a positive experience for both customers and internal teams.

Key responsibilities

  • Support sales and service teams with washing, cleaning and preparing vehicles for customers
  • Safely move, park and transport vehicles between the dealership, service centre and customer handovers
  • Manage vehicle placement and organisation within the dealership yard
  • Ensure vehicles are fuelled, inspected and ready for delivery
  • Conduct vehicle condition checks and report any damage or issues
  • Maintain showroom and yard presentation standards
  • Maintain a safe, organised and efficient yard environment

About you

You are someone who enjoys hands-on work and takes pride in maintaining high standards of vehicle presentation and organisation. Whether you're detailing a customer vehicle or coordinating vehicle movements across the yard, you understand the importance of accuracy, efficiency and attention to detail.

You're comfortable working outdoors and can manage multiple priorities in a busy dealership environment. You work well independently but are equally happy collaborating with Sales, Service and Operations teams to ensure everything runs smoothly.

To be successful, you will have:

  • Full New Zealand Driver's Licence with no restrictions
  • Previous vehicle detailing, yard hand, dealership or vehicle handling experience highly regarded
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Ability to safely manoeuvre and park a variety of vehicles
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors
  • Ability to prioritise tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Reliable and proactive approach to work
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills

We offer you

  • Automotive Industry Exposure: Gain hands-on experience across dealership operations, sales and service functions
  • Global Organisation: Start or continue your career with one of the world's leading automotive distribution and retail businesses
  • Team-Focused Culture: Work alongside experienced sales, service and operations professionals in a fast-paced dealership environment
  • Varied & Active Role: No two days are the same, with a mix of vehicle detailing, yard coordination, vehicle movements and dealership support
