Yard Operative

About the Role

We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Yard Operative to join our busy vehicle breakers/scrap yard.

This is a practical, hands on role involving the dismantling of vehicles, removal of reusable parts and general duties around the yard. The successful candidate should be comfortable working outdoors and carrying out physically demanding work.

Previous experience working in a breakers yard, scrap yard, garage or similar environment would be an advantage, although training can be provided for the right person.

Main Duties

• Dismantling end-of-life and salvage vehicles.
• Removing vehicle parts and components carefully and efficiently.
• Identifying and separating reusable vehicle parts and scrap materials.
• Using hand tools, power tools and other appropriate equipment.
• Assisting with the movement and organisation of vehicles and parts around the yard.
• Sorting and organising scrap metal and other materials.
• Keeping the yard, work areas and storage areas clean, tidy and safe.
• Loading and unloading parts, materials and deliveries where required.
• Preparing parts for storage, collection or sale.
• Carrying out general yard duties as required.
• Following all company health and safety procedures.
• Working as part of the yard team to ensure jobs are completed safely and efficiently.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will:

• Be reliable, punctual and willing to work.
• Be physically fit and comfortable with manual work.
• Be confident using basic hand and power tools.
• Have a practical, hands on approach to work.
• Be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Be comfortable working outdoors in different weather conditions.
• Have good awareness of workplace health and safety.
• Have an interest in or basic knowledge of vehicles and vehicle parts.

Experience in vehicle dismantling, mechanics, scrap yards, breakers yards, recycling, vehicle recovery or similar work would be beneficial but is not essential.

A full UK driving licence would be advantageous but is not essential

Forklift, mechanical or other relevant licences/qualifications would also be an advantage but not necessary
