What they need

About ADAMS

Over four decades, the All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS) has grown into one of the largest Muslim communities in the Washington, D.C. area, serving families across six branches in Northern Virginia. The Youth Department serves young people from middle school through age 22, with one goal: connecting them to Allah, to the masjid, and to one another.

About the Role

The Youth Coordinator is the hands-on mentor and organizer for youth, both brothers and sisters, across all ADAMS branches. You will build real relationships with youth, run and support programs at every branch, equip the volunteer branch youth coordinators, and help the branches grow together instead of working in isolation.

The work happens when youth are in the masjid, which means regular evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

Mentorship

  • Build personal, consistent relationships with youth ages 11 to 22 across all six branches
  • Serve as a trusted, approachable resource for youth dealing with spiritual, personal, academic, and social challenges, and refer to the Imams, AOI, or professional support when a situation calls for it
  • Identify and develop youth leaders who can help plan and run programs

Programming

  • Plan, organize, and lead programs for middle school, high school, and young adults, such as, but not limited to, halaqahs, bonfires, qiyam nights, sports events, outings, hikes, retreats, and camps
  • Run recurring programs at each branch, along with monthly activities and quarterly cross-branch events
  • Support ADAMS-wide initiatives including Ramadan, Eid, conferences, retreats, and family programming
  • Ensure all programming reflects the mission, values, and Islamic principles of ADAMS
  • Work with the department's sports staff so athletic programs include mentorship and a spiritual component, not only games
  • Support the rollout of department-wide initiatives at the branch level
  • Coordinate with other ADAMS programs and departments on joint events
  • Adapt programs to each branch's community rather than copying one format everywhere

Branch Coordinators and Volunteers

  • Serve as the main point of contact and support for the volunteer branch youth coordinators
  • Recruit, train, and retain youth volunteers and parent volunteers at every branch
  • Visit each branch regularly so every community feels served, not just Sterling

Cross-Branch Unity

  • Create joint programs, shared events, and friendly inter-branch competitions so youth from different branches know each other
  • Share what works at one branch with the others

Schools and Partners

  • Support local middle school, high school, and college MSAs
  • Lead ADAMS youth participation in regional youth competitions, conferences, and tournaments
  • Build relationships with parents and keep them informed about programs

Collaboration

  • Work under the Youth Director's direction with the Youth Committee, AOI, Education Department, Imams, branch leadership, and Operations teams
  • Coordinate with Operations and branch leadership on space, scheduling, and event logistics before programs are announced

Administration

  • Manage program budgets and follow ADAMS spending approval processes
  • Track attendance and gather youth and parent feedback after programs
  • Create program flyers and announcements (Canva, WhatsApp, social media)
  • Complete reports and documentation as requested by the Youth Director

Safety and Safeguarding

  • Follow ADAMS youth protection policies, including two-adult supervision and parent consent for trips and overnights
  • No private one-on-one messaging with minors; group chats with youth must include another adult or parents
  • Complete youth protection training within the first 30 days
  • Chaperone and supervise youth at events, trips, camps, and overnight programs

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent experience
  • 3 or more years of work or volunteer experience running youth programs
  • Strong organization, follow-through, and project management skills
  • Solid understanding of Islamic fundamentals, etiquette, and manners
  • Real understanding of the challenges facing Muslim American youth, from middle school through college
  • Able to relate to different ages, backgrounds, and communities, including low-income, disabled, or otherwise marginalized youth
  • Energetic, relational, self-directed, and comfortable working non-traditional hours
  • Comfortable with email, Google Workspace, MS Office, Canva, and social media, and willing to learn new tools
  • Arabic or other community languages a plus

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license and a reliable personal vehicle
  • Cleared background check before start date
  • CPR and First Aid certification within the first 90 days
  • Available evenings and weekends
  • Able to lift and set up equipment up to 40 lbs, stand for long periods, and take part in outdoor and overnight programs
