YouTube Videographer & Editor

Pre-production

• Plan shoots with the content or creative team, including concept, script, shot list and storyboard
• Scout locations and arrange equipment, props and setups
• Plan videos around the channel's style, audience and YouTube trends

Shooting

• Shoot high-quality video for long-form YouTube videos and Shorts
• Set up and operate cameras, lighting and audio equipment
• Direct talent or hosts on camera when needed
• Capture B-roll, product shots, interviews and behind-the-scenes footage
• Keep framing, lighting and sound consistent across all videos

Editing and post-production

• Edit raw footage into engaging, well-paced videos
• Add music, sound effects, transitions, text, graphics and subtitles
• Do color correction, color grading and audio cleanup
• Create vertical edits and Shorts from long-form videos
• Edit hooks and intros that keep viewers watching
• Revise edits based on feedback

YouTube-specific work

• Design or help with thumbnails that drive clicks
• Optimize videos for YouTube's format, aspect ratios and export settings
• Help with titles, descriptions and tags when needed
• Study audience retention and analytics to improve future edits
• Follow YouTube trends, formats and editing styles

File and workflow management

• Organize, back up and archive footage and project files
• Maintain and care for camera and studio equipment
• Meet publishing deadlines and keep a regular upload schedule

Skills and requirements

• Strong skills in Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve
• Working knowledge of After Effects or motion graphics (a plus)
• Hands-on experience with DSLR or mirrorless cameras, gimbals, lighting and microphones
• Good sense of storytelling, pacing and visual composition
• Understanding of YouTube analytics and what makes content perform
• A portfolio or showreel of YouTube work
• Ability to work independently and handle several projects at once

Content creation and ideation

• Come up with video ideas, series concepts and content calendars for the channel
• Research trending topics, keywords and competitor channels to find content opportunities
• Write scripts, hooks, talking points and video outlines
• Create content for long-form videos, YouTube Shorts and community posts
• Appear on camera or do voiceovers when needed
• Repurpose YouTube content for Instagram Reels, Facebook and other platforms
• Keep the content in line with the brand's voice, goals and target audience

• Track YouTube analytics (views, CTR, watch time, retention) and use them to improve content
• Respond to comments and engage with the audience
• Keep up with YouTube algorithm changes, trends and new formats

Workflow and management

• Maintain a regular upload schedule and meet deadlines
• Organize, back up and archive footage and project files
• Maintain camera and studio equipment

Skills and requirements

• Strong skills in Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve
• Working knowledge of After Effects, Canva or Photoshop for graphics and thumbnails
• Hands-on experience with cameras, gimbals, lighting and microphones
• Good scriptwriting and storytelling ability
• Understanding of YouTube SEO, analytics and audience growth
• Comfortable on camera (preferred)
• A portfolio or showreel of YouTube content
• Creative, self-driven and able to handle the full process from idea to upload
