Job Description:

Incumbent is responsible for enforcing the City of Gallup Land Development Standards, and other related zoning ordinances. Checks site plans and surveys to ensure compliance by property owners, developers, and contractors. Approves/denies projects according to zoning code requirements such as parking, landscaping, setbacks, permitted land uses, etc. Issues building permits, conducts inspections to ensure compliance with approved plans, and issues certificates of completion. Incumbent will also perform a variety of administrative and technical functions related to data entry, file maintenance, and property research. Work involves reviewing permit applications, frequently answering zoning codes questions, necessitating the exercise of considerable judgment, tact, fitness and firmness when consulting with contractors, design professionals, builders and the general public.

Additional Information:

STARTING HOURLY: $22.96 p/h

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma or equivalent, (GED) supplemented by college coursework in business, construction technology or related field of study

-AND-

• Three (3) years of experience in construction and/or landuse/zoning
• Valid driver’s license (state of residence). Must meet City’s insurability requirements.

Other Conditions:

• Upon hire candidate will have two (2) years to obtain the Certified Zoning Official Certification through New Mexico League of Zoning Officials

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's Degree in Business or Public Administration, Planning or related field
• Experience in code enforcement, city ordinances, and court proceedings
