Mechanical Engineer

Key Responsibilities & Duties1. Plant Equipment & Operational Maintenance

• Oversee mechanical operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of core chip production processing equipment:
• Processing Line: Washing systems, steam peelers, high-speed rotary slicers, blanchers, continuous fryers, heat exchangers, and oil filtration systems.
• Packaging & Conveying: Vibratory conveyors, bucket elevators, multi-head weighers, Form-Fill-Seal (FFS) bagging machines, and case packers.
• Utilities & Auxiliaries: Thermal fluid heaters, boilers, compressed air systems, pumps, valves, and industrial refrigeration.
• Diagnose mechanical failures, root-cause operational downtime, and implement permanent corrective actions.

2. Preventive & Predictive Maintenance (PM/PdM)

• Develop, refine, and enforce mechanical preventive maintenance routines using the plant’s CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
• Implement predictive maintenance techniques (vibration analysis, thermography, oil analysis) to prevent equipment breakdown.
• Manage mechanical spare parts inventory for critical equipment to minimize downtime while optimizing inventory costs.

3. Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement

• Analyze line efficiency (OEE), scrap rate, and mechanical bottleneck data to identify continuous improvement initiatives.
• Optimize energy and heat recovery systems across high-consumption processing units like continuous fryers and heat exchangers.
• Optimize oil quality and flow dynamics in continuous fryers to improve product quality and yield.

4. Capital Projects & Installation

• Lead mechanical engineering capital improvement projects (CAPEX)—from equipment selection and line layout design to installation, commissioning, and validation.
• Collaborate with equipment OEMs, external contractors, and vendors during new machinery installations or plant modifications.

5. Food Safety, Hygiene & EHS Compliance

• Ensure all mechanical modifications and repairs strictly comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), HACCP, Sanitary Facility Design (3-A/EHEDG), and OSHA/DOLE safety standards.
• Ensure food-grade lubricants and materials are used across all direct and indirect product contact areas.
• Participate in Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Control (HIRAC) to uphold occupational health and safety standards.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

• Unplanned Downtime: Reduced mechanical line stoppages and downtime hours.
• OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness): Plant equipment availability and mechanical reliability target achievement.
• PM Compliance: On-time completion rate for scheduled preventive maintenance tasks.
• Capital Project Execution: Delivery of assigned mechanical engineering projects on time and within budget.

Qualifications & CompetenciesEducation & Experience

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Licensure: Professional Mechanical Engineer (PME) or Registered Mechanical Engineer (RME) license preferred.
• Experience: 3–5+ years of mechanical engineering experience in high-speed Food & Beverage manufacturing (direct experience with fried/baked snacks, chips, or confectionery lines is highly preferred).

Technical Skills & Knowledge

• Strong knowledge of industrial thermal fluid systems, steam systems, heat exchangers, pumps, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
• Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) for equipment layouts and mechanical design modifications.
• Experience with CMMS software (e.g., SAP PM, Maximo, or similar).
• Strong working knowledge of sanitary design principles and food-grade hygienic equipment standards.

Soft Skills

• Strong analytical, root-cause problem-solving (5-Why, Fishbone analysis), and critical-thinking skills.
• Excellent cross-functional communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to manage high-pressure breakdown scenarios and prioritize tasks effectively.

Pay: From Php18,000.00 per month
