Senior Engineering Manager - Barcelona 🇪🇸

We are partnering with a fast-growing international B2C tech company operating a digital marketplace across several European markets and currently accelerating its expansion into the US 🇺🇸.

The company has a strong Product & Engineering culture, built around ownership, autonomy, data-driven decision-making and pragmatic technical solutions.

As part of this next stage of growth, the Engineering organisation is expanding with the creation of two new product squads.

The role

We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager who will progressively take ownership of these two squads, representing approximately 8 engineers at full scale.

The position sits at the intersection of people management, technical leadership, product and delivery.

You won’t be expected to code on a daily basis, but you should maintain enough technical depth and credibility to challenge engineering decisions, contribute to architecture discussions and effectively coach senior engineers.

What you’ll do

👥 People Management & Coaching

• Manage and coach engineers across two squads

• Provide regular feedback and support individual development

• Help engineers grow both technically and professionally

• Align individual progression with company objectives

• Build a strong culture of ownership and accountability

🚀 Product & Delivery

• Own the quality and reliability of delivery

• Work closely with Product Managers and other stakeholders

• Ensure teams understand the business impact behind what they build

• Encourage teams to monitor and validate features after release

• Contribute to company KPIs through the products and features delivered

🏗️ Technical Leadership

• Challenge technical and architectural decisions

• Contribute to discussions around architecture, engineering practices and methodology

• Promote simple, robust and pragmatic solutions

• Maintain strong technical awareness without acting as the main individual contributor

🤝 Organisation & Leadership

• Help structure and grow two new Engineering squads

• Collaborate closely with Product, Business and Engineering stakeholders

• Improve ways of working as the organisation scales

• Support an Engineering organisation through an important phase of international growth

  What we’re looking for

Technical environment

The company operates a high-traffic web platform and strongly values simplicity and pragmatism over unnecessary architectural complexity.

The main stack includes: PHP / Symfony / MySQL / Angular

This is not a hands-on developer position, but the Senior Engineering Manager needs to remain technically strong enough to contribute meaningfully to engineering and architecture discussions.

• 5+ years of experience managing technical teams

• Significant experience as an Engineering Manager / Senior Engineering Manager

• A strong previous background in Software Engineering

• Ability to challenge senior engineers on technical and architectural topics

• Experience managing product-oriented squads

• Strong interest in Product, delivery and business impact

• Experience within a scale-up, marketplace, SaaS or complex digital product environment

• Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills

• Fluent English

• French is a plus, but not required

✈️ Occasional travel to Paris / around 6 to 9 trips per year

💰 Approx. €90K–€100K base salary, depending on experience and overall fit
