  • Ensure the mainframe platform and its services remain available, secure, and performant to meet agreed service levels.
  • Provide 24/7 production support where required.
  • Work in a technical engineering / operations-led capacity, not pure application or database development.

Key ResponsibilitiesSystem Installation, Customization & Maintenance

  • Install, customize, and maintain the z/OS operating system and related subsystems on IBM mainframe hardware.
  • Configure and manage mainframe hardware and system software to support business and application requirements.
  • Apply system maintenance (SMP/E, PTFs, upgrades).
  • Coordinate change/version upgrades with minimal disruption to production.

Operations, Availability & Service Continuity

  • Monitor system health, batch and online workloads, and job scheduling to ensure services meet agreed SLAs.
  • Support 24/7 production operations, including on-call / shift coverage for incident response as required by the client.
  • Perform daily operational administration: system starts/restarts, IPLs, job monitoring, and console/automation event handling.

Performance, Capacity & Tuning

  • Monitor CPU utilization, storage, buffer pools, and other system resources.
  • Tune the environment for optimal performance.
  • Conduct capacity planning: track storage/resource usage trends and forecast future growth requirements.

Backup, Recovery & Disaster Recovery

  • Schedule and verify system/data backups.
  • Maintain and test disaster recovery (DR) plans and procedures.
  • Perform data/system restoration and recovery activities in the event of failure.

Security Administration

  • Support security setup for new applications and systems: user authentication, access permissions, and audit logging.
  • Work with RACF or equivalent external security manager for access control administration, in line with IBM z/OS security practices.

Automation & Collaboration

  • Configure and maintain automation tooling for routine operational tasks and event handling.
  • Work closely with production control, application, network, and database specialist teams.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot system failures, performance issues, and job abends.
  • Perform root-cause analysis.

Documentation

  • Maintain accurate configuration records, operational runbooks, backup/recovery procedures, and compliance documentation.

Key Technical Requirements

  • Z/OS experience – Major / Mandatory: Strong, hands-on z/OS systems programming / administration experience, including installation, customization, maintenance, and operations support.
  • COBOL experience – Minor / Preferred: COBOL exposure is an added advantage but not a strict requirement.
  • Working knowledge of JCL, VSAM, and mainframe utilities.
  • Exposure to RACF or equivalent security management tools is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with performance monitoring, capacity planning, and backup/disaster recovery practices on z/OS.

Candidate Profile Summary

  • Mid-Senior to Senior level mainframe professional.
  • Systems programmer / systems engineer with an operations and technical engineering leaning.
  • Banking or non-banking industry background accepted.
  • Comfortable with 24/7 production support environments and on-call rotations where applicable.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical thinking, and documentation discipline.
  • Available immediately or within 30 days’ notice.
  • Willing to work fully onsite at Bangi.
