- Drawings & Specs: Thoroughly review refractory lining drawings, BOQs (Bill of Quantities), and technical specifications provided by customers or EPCs.
- Design Validation: Assess the suitability of proposed refractory designs (brick layouts, monolithic linings, anchoring systems) against operational parameters like temperature profiles, chemical environment, and mechanical stress.
- Material Selection: Recommend specific refractory products (Castables, PCPF etc) based on Physical properties, thermal conductivity, abrasion resistance, CO resistance requirements etc.,
2. Customer & Consultant Liaison
- Technical Advisory: Act as the primary technical point of contact for OEMs and Consultants to justify product selections and propose value-engineering alternatives.
- Pre-bid Support: Assist the sales and estimation teams by providing technical clearances and identifying the "right-fit" products for competitive bidding.
- Gap Analysis: Identify instances where existing products do not meet project specs and provide a detailed "Technical Gap Report" to the NPD team for new product initiation.
3. Engineering Calculations & Solutions
- Thermal Modelling: Perform (or oversee) steady-state heat flow calculations to determine interface temperatures and outer shell temperatures.
- Anchor Design: Recommend appropriate anchoring systems (Y-anchors, V-anchors, etc.) and spacing based on the lining thickness and orientation.
- Failure Analysis: Assist in the technical audit of failed linings at site and suggest re-engineering solutions to enhance equipment life.
4. Documentation & Compliance
- Prepare detailed Technical Data Comparison Statements (Internal vs. Competitor/Project Spec).
- Maintain a library of global standards (ASTM, DIN, ISO, IS) relevant to refractory engineering.
