What they need
Prepare, review, and implement method statements and procedures for the installation, protection, maintenance, and monitoring of piezometers and settlement plates.
Supervise and verify the proper installation, positioning, calibration, initial readings, and functional testing of geotechnical instrumentation.
Conduct regular monitoring and interpretation of piezometric water levels and pore water pressure before, during, and after embankment placement.
Assess groundwater conditions, pore pressure development, dissipation trends, and soil response during staged embankment construction.
Analyze monitoring results to evaluate embankment performance, consolidation progress, and potential geotechnical instability.
Establish baseline readings, monitoring frequencies, trigger levels, and reporting requirements in accordance with the approved design and project specifications.
Identify abnormal readings, excessive pore pressure buildup, delayed pressure dissipation, unexpected groundwater changes, or settlement trends that may indicate potential geotechnical
risks.
- Recommend appropriate actions, including increased monitoring frequency, technical investigation, or temporary suspension of embankment activities, when warranted by monitoring
results and the approved action criteria.
Maintain, troubleshoot, and protect installed instruments to ensure reliability and continuity of monitoring data.
Prepare monitoring reports, data plots, trend analyses, and technical recommendations for submission to the Project Management Team, Designer, and Engineer.
Coordinate with the Survey Department for settlement plate surveys, elevation monitoring, and correlation of instrumentation results with embankment progress.
Report directly to the Survey Department Head on all geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring activities, including work progress, monitoring results, technical findings, potential risks, and recommended actions. Coordinate with the Designer and Engineer regarding monitoring results, technical concerns, and recommendations for subsequent embankment stages.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, preferably with specialization or substantial experience in Geotechnical Engineering.
Relevant professional registration and qualifications in accordance with project requirements.
Proven experience in geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring for embankment, ground improvement, reclamation, railway, highway, or other infrastructure projects.
Demonstrable knowledge and practical experience in piezometer installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and data interpretation.
Strong understanding of groundwater behavior, pore water pressure, soil consolidation, embankment stability, and settlement mechanisms.
Experience interpreting piezometer and settlement monitoring data to support decisions on staged embankment construction.
Ability to prepare technical reports, monitoring plots, method statements, and risk assessments.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other relevant engineering or data analysis software.
