What they need

Human Resources Manager

Te Iwi o Ngāti Kahu Trust | East Tāmaki, Auckland

Take ownership of a broad HR function, providing trusted people advice and hands-on HR support across Te Iwi o Ngāti Kahu Trust.

Te Iwi o Ngāti Kahu Trust is seeking an experienced and pragmatic Human Resources Professional to lead and enable its HR function from East Tāmaki.

This is a sole-charge generalist role with real breadth – partnering with leaders, navigating complex people matters and strengthening consistent, practical HR practice across the organisation.

Mō Mātou | About the Organisation

Te Iwi o Ngāti Kahu Trust, also known as Te Matapuna o te Ora, is the social services entity of Ngāti Kahu. We deliver health, social and community services to whānau in a way that reflects the values, tikanga and aspirations of our wider iwi.

Our kaupapa works alongside whānau from Tāmaki Makaurau to the Far North to support them to achieve their aspirations.

Our vision: “He taonga te mokopuna, me manaakitia kia puawai” – All people are nurtured in their growth.

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

Permanent | East Tāmaki, Auckland | Reports to Chief Operating Officer

As HR Manager, you’ll take ownership of the HR function across Te Iwi o Ngāti Kahu Trust, providing both strategic and operational support across the employee lifecycle.

Working closely with the COO, CEO, CFO and Kaiwhakahaere, you’ll be a trusted advisor to leaders – providing practical advice, helping navigate complex people matters and building their confidence and capability to lead their teams well.

You’ll be involved in:

  • providing trusted, practical HR advice and building manager capability
  • managing employee relations matters, including performance, disciplinary and grievance processes
  • leading or coordinating workplace investigations and organisational change
  • supporting workforce planning, remuneration and performance management
  • leading recruitment, onboarding and induction
  • developing and maintaining effective HR policies, systems and people practices
  • supporting a positive, values-based culture and kaimahi wellbeing
  • managing union relationships and collective agreement obligations, where applicable.

At the heart of the role is the ability to balance people, risk and organisational needs – exercising sound judgement, providing clear advice and knowing when specialist support is required.

Mōu | About You

You’ll be an experienced HR generalist who enjoys breadth, works confidently and autonomously, and is comfortable being the person leaders turn to for HR advice.

You may already be an HR Manager, or you could be a strong Senior HR Advisor or HR Business Partner ready to take ownership of a broader HR function.

You’ll bring:

  • at least five years’ broad generalist HR experience at senior advisor or HR management level
  • strong knowledge of New Zealand employment legislation and HR best practice
  • solid employee relations capability, including complex performance, disciplinary and grievance matters
  • an understanding of workplace investigations and natural justice
  • experience supporting organisational change
  • experience across broader HR activities such as workforce planning, remuneration, performance management, policy and systems
  • sound judgement and the ability to build trusted relationships with leaders and kaimahi.

Experience operating autonomously or in a sole-charge HR environment would be valuable, as would experience with a geographically dispersed or multi-service workforce, unions and collective agreements.

You’ll also be comfortable working within a kaupapa Māori environment and bring genuine respect for Ngāti Kahu values, tikanga and the whānau and communities we serve.

Nōu te Rourou | What’s in it for You?

This is an opportunity to take ownership of a broad HR function while working closely with the Executive team and leaders across Te Iwi o Ngāti Kahu Trust.

You’ll have the breadth to work across both strategic and operational HR, with the opportunity to strengthen people practices and build manager capability while contributing your expertise to an organisation with a strong kaupapa and purpose.

Me pēhea te tono | How to Apply

If you’re ready to bring your HR experience to a broad, hands-on role where you can make a genuine contribution, we’d like to hear from you.

Apply now with your CV and a cover letter outlining your experience and interest in the role or, for a confidential conversation, contact the PeopleEX team at [email protected].

Applications will be reviewed as they are received.
