  • Oversee operation and maintenance of boilers, heating and cooling systems, and other building equipment as qualified.
  • Monitor service contracts and maintenance agreements for elevators, fire extinguishers, mechanical systems, security systems and other facility needs.
  • Help create and implement a comprehensive plan to keep parish buildings and grounds in good repair and condition.
  • Use equipment safely and maintain equipment in fully operational condition.

Grounds & Property

  • Maintain and monitor parish grounds, parking lots, sidewalks, and entrances.
  • Monitor parking lot and sidewalk conditions and address maintenance needs.
  • Maintain a clean and welcoming campus.
  • Water grounds as needed.
  • Oversee and ensure prompt removal of snow and ice from sidewalks and steps.
  • Assist people attending Assumption events with parking and address unauthorized parking in a polite and firm manner.

Cleaning & Housekeeping

  • Oversee daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning tasks on a scheduled basis.
  • Ensure church and parish spaces are clean, orderly, and ready for use.
  • Vacuum, sweep, mop, dust, and clean bathrooms, kitchen areas, and other parish spaces as needed.

  • Unlock and lock the church according to the daily schedule.
  • Be aware of people on parish property and ensure they are in the building for a valid reason.
  • Take appropriate security actions required to maintain safety and order.
  • Assist with daytime security and monitor parish property.

Supervision & Teamwork

  • Supervise and provide work direction to maintenance staff.
  • Help create a productive environment characterized by harmony, good morale, and cooperative teamwork.
  • Monitor productivity and take corrective action as appropriate.
  • Maintain effective communication with employees, parishioners, vendors, supervisors, and other appropriate individuals.
  • Keep supervisors and appropriate others informed of facility, maintenance, security, and staffing concerns.
  • Demonstrate dependable attendance, punctuality, initiative, and a willingness to provide additional effort when needed.

Work Environment

This is a hands-on facilities position requiring regular interaction with parish staff, parishioners, volunteers, vendors, and visitors. The Facilities Manager is expected to remain professional, helpful, and respectful when handling difficult or stressful situations.

Employment in and by the Church is substantially different from secular employment. Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church. Their behavior must not violate the faith, morals, or laws of the Church or the Archdiocese in a manner that could embarrass the Church or give rise to scandal.

This position does not require that the employee be Catholic. It is expected, however, that non-Catholic employees will respect Catholic doctrine and religious practices. Reasonable accommodations for the religious practice of non-Catholics will similarly be provided.
