What they need

WSG Energy Services

Locations: Alberta and British Columbia

WSG Energy Services is seeking experienced Controlled Bolting Supervisors to lead field crews delivering hydraulic torquing and bolt tensioning services across Alberta and British Columbia.

This is a hands-on leadership position supporting industrial maintenance, construction, commissioning and turnaround projects. The role is responsible for safe execution, workmanship, crew coordination and accurate job documentation. Portable field machining experience is an asset, particularly for projects involving combined bolting and machining scopes.

Work assignments will vary and may include local site work, project assignments, remote locations and camp-based work. Candidates must be willing to travel, stay away from home and work project rotations, day or night shifts, and overtime as required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate bolting crews, assigning tasks according to competency, scope and project priorities.
  • Review work packages, approved procedures, drawings and joint specifications before execution.
  • Confirm crew, tooling, equipment and material requirements with operations and project personnel.
  • Verify equipment suitability, calibration status and readiness before mobilization and use.
  • Oversee joint preparation, gasket installation, hydraulic torquing and bolt tensioning.
  • Confirm crews follow specified settings, tightening sequences, staged passes and documentation requirements.
  • Perform hands-on bolting work and provide practical coaching to technicians.
  • Lead toolbox talks, hazard assessments and coordination of permits and isolations with authorized site personnel.
  • Identify scope changes, access restrictions, defective components and other execution issues, and escalate them promptly.
  • Coordinate with client representatives, other trades and WSG operations to manage work fronts and schedules.
  • Maintain shift reports, progress updates, joint records, timesheets and equipment records.
  • Verify completed work and documentation against project requirements before handover.
  • Oversee tooling care, equipment inspections and return of equipment following completion.
  • Coordinate field machining activities where qualified personnel and approved procedures are available.

Required experience and qualifications

  • Strong hands-on experience in hydraulic torquing and bolt tensioning.
  • Previous experience supervising industrial field crews or leading controlled bolting work.
  • A thorough understanding of bolted joint assembly, tooling selection, tightening procedures and joint integrity.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, work packages, torque charts and tensioning instructions.
  • Ability to plan daily work, allocate resources and manage changing site priorities.
  • Sound judgment when identifying unsafe conditions, technical concerns or work outside the approved scope.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to coach technicians and work effectively with clients.
  • Strong documentation practices and accountability for crew performance and workmanship.
  • Willingness to work throughout Alberta and British Columbia, including remote sites, camp assignments and extended project stays.
  • A valid driver’s licence and ability to meet client-specific training and site-access requirements.

Assets

  • Experience supervising or performing portable field machining, including flange facing.
  • Experience with flange management programs, joint registers and completion tracking.
  • Mechanical trade qualifications and relevant supervisory or bolting training.
  • Experience coordinating crews during remote projects, shutdowns and turnarounds.
