About the role

The Investment Managers play a key role in supporting NZIAT’s investment activities, helping identify, assess, and manage opportunities that move advanced technologies from research through to commercialisation, venture creation, and growth.

Working closely with the Head of Investment, you will provide investment analysis, due diligence, portfolio management support, and commercial advice that contributes to New Zealand’s advanced technology ecosystem.  This is a unique opportunity to work across investment strategy, emerging technologies, venture development, and industry partnerships while contributing to nationally significant outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess investment opportunities and undertake due diligence activities

• Support the development and delivery of NZIAT’s investment strategy

• Build and manage a pipeline of frontier research and venture opportunities

• Monitor portfolio performance, risks, milestones, and outcomes

• Lead contract development, negotiation, and partner management

• Support co-investment initiatives and attract private capital partners

You are a commercially astute investment professional who combines strong analytical capability with a passion for innovation, technology, and economic impact. You enjoy working in complex environments where you can evaluate opportunities, manage competing priorities, and build trusted relationships across research, industry, investment, and government sectors.

You are comfortable translating complex commercial and technical information into practical recommendations and thrive in an organisation focused on shaping New Zealand’s future technology capability.

Skills, Experience & Competencies

• Experience in investment, venture capital, corporate finance, or commercialisation

• Strong due diligence, investment analysis, and business case development skills

• Understanding of technology commercialisation, start-ups, or innovation ecosystems

• Experience managing contracts, commercial arrangements, and stakeholder relationships

• Ability to assess risk, opportunity, and portfolio performance outcomes

• Strong communication and influencing skills with diverse stakeholders
