STEAM, NEUTRALISATION & UTILITIES ENGINEER

About the role

Accountable for the safe, stable and efficient operation of the Neutralisation and Utilities (NTUT) production Unit, ensuring delivery of production, quality, cost and reliability targets defined for the site. Own and optimize raw materials, chemicals, utility usage performance (acid, tetra, limestone, lime slurry, NG, steam, air systems and related consumables), ensuring disciplined tracking, reporting and continuous cost optimization. Ensure stable and controlled NTUT performance and downstream filtrate and red gypsum quality, supporting overall plant operability and environmental compliance. Act as the Production Subject Matter Expert (SME) for NTUT area, ensuring adherence to process design intent, operating standards and technical discipline, while coordinating chemical and utility supply to BE and WE units. Serve as the competent Steam Boiler Engineer for the site, ensuring statutory compliance, safe operations and integrity of steam boiler in accordance with regulatory requirements and approved inspection and maintenance standards.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure all activities within the NTUT area are conducted in full compliance with corporate EHS, Process Safety Management (PSM), product stewardship standards and local regulatory requirements
• Ensure safe, stable and predictable operation of the NTUT unit in line with production, quality and cost targets
• Monitor and optimise Red Gypsum and filtrate quality to support environmental and operational requirements
• Lead troubleshooting of day-to-day operational deviations and escalate systemic issues appropriately
• Own monitoring, tracking and optimisation of chemicals and utility consumption including acid, tetra, limestone, Natural Gas, steam, compressed air
• Serve as the competent steam boiler engineer for the site in accordance with statutory and regulatory requirements
• Ensure operating practices align with process design intent and approved technical standards
• Provide technical guidance to shift teams on process control, optimisation and troubleshooting
• Analyse daily operational and utility data to identify performance gaps and improvement opportunities
• Provide technical coaching and structured training to shift superintendents and supervisors within the NTUT area

About you

• Degree in Science/Engineering, particularly Chemical Engineering
• 5 years chemical / manufacturing plant experiences
• Steam Engineer Competency Certificate First Grade
• Understanding of company EHS and Engineering Policies, Standards and procedures
• Ability to use SAP system, PI, DCS, Tessa and related systems
• Knowledge of local legislation standards, work systems and procedures, including EHS, OSHA will be an added advantage
• Cost/resource estimating and forecasting capability
