Forward Deployed Engineer

About the Role We are seeking a hands-on Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) for our Clear Compliance Cloud (direct and indirect tax) team. You will build, configure, and evaluate production-grade AI agents natively. Operating at the intersection of technical execution and customer success, you will partner with CSMs and work directly with "build-with" enterprise customers to deliver cost-effective agentic solutions, drive adoption, and feed learnings back into our core product.

What You Will Do:

Agent Architecture & Optimization

Advise customers on agent system design, balancing cost, performance, latency, and consistency.

Manage model context, context windows, and prompt strategies.

Build data pipelines, connectors, and automated workflows while ensuring data quality.

Establish agent evaluation (evals) frameworks to measure accuracy and reliability.

Customer Engineering & Adoption

Deliver optimized AI agents tailored to customer needs and drive AAT agent adoption.

Partner with CSMs as a technical advisor for customer onboarding and architecture scoping.

Script away repetitive manual processes to automate deployments.

Product Feedback Loop

Serve as the primary feedback link between field teams (CSMs, FDEs, customers) and core Product Engineering.

Harden out-of-the-box agents based on production data and real-world edge cases.

Code & Engineering Standards

Write production Python and SQL, and evaluate LLM-written code for accuracy and correctness.

Translate ambiguous requirements into implementations and explain technical limits without jargon.

What You Bring:

Must Have

Production Agent Experience: Proven track record in agent/skill development, prompting, and evals.

Core Technical Skills: Fluency in Python and SQL with automation/scripting experience.

LLM Code Evaluation: Ability to test and evaluate LLM-generated code for correctness.

Ambiguity & Communication: Experience navigating requirements without specs and explaining technical limits clearly.

SDLC Exposure: Hands-on experience across the Software Development Life Cycle.

Foundational

Bachelors degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field.

Strong problem-solving, analytical, and written/verbal communication skills.
