Senior Lab Manager

Position Mission: to ensure the efficient, safe and quality-driven operation of the laboratory by implementing, maintaining and continuously improving processes aligned with UNE-EN ISO 15189 standards. Oversee daily laboratory activities, manage personnel and resources and ensure reliable, timely and accurate diagnostic and research results to support Altum Sequencing's mission in cancer marker analysis and patient monitoring.

Compliance & Quality Management:

• Implement and uphold laboratory procedures in line with UNE-EN ISO 15189.
• Ensure compliance with legal, ethical and accreditation requirements.
• Work closely with the Quality Manager on audits, non-conformities and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain and monitor SOPs and ensure document control.
• Participate in Internal Audits and External Audits as an SME (Subject Matter Expert).

Operational Oversight:

• Supervise day-to-day lab operations including sequencing workflows, sample tracking, equipment maintenance and reagent inventory.
• Coordinate workload distribution and ensure turnaround time targets are met.
• Oversee bioinformatics pipeline initiation from lab outputs in coordination with data teams.

Personnel Management:

• Supervise, train and evaluate laboratory technicians and junior scientists.
• Plan schedules, manage workloads and ensure personnel competency through regular training and assessments.

Health & Safety:

• Enforce laboratory biosafety and biosecurity protocols and risk assessments.
• Ensure staff adhere to biosafety and chemical safety requirements.

Resource & Budget Management:

• Manage laboratory supply chains, inventory and procurement aligned with cost-efficiency.

• Forecast reagent and consumable needs based on project pipeline and diagnostic demand.

• MSc or PhD in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Medical Laboratory Sciences, or related field.

• Minimum 5 years of laboratory experience, including 2+ years in a leadership or supervisory role.

• Proven experience in clinical or diagnostics lab operations under UNE-EN ISO 15189.

• Familiarity with NGS workflows, qPCR and other molecular biology techniques.

• High attention to detail, manual dexterity and problem-solving abilities.

• Strong knowledge of LIMS and lab automation systems is a plus.

• Excellent organizational, leadership and communication skills.

• Fluency in English and Spanish.
