Hydropower Solutions Engineer

Location: Charlotte, NC – Hybrid

Pay: $115K – $165K

We are seeking an experienced Hydropower Engineer / Hydroelectric SME to support technical solutions and proposals for large-scale hydroelectric power projects.

This is a customer-facing role for someone with deep hydropower industry experience who can understand a customer's facility and technical requirements and help define the right project scope and solution.

Proposal experience and experience with a specific DCS platform are not required. Hydropower expertise is the priority.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the hydropower technical SME for major project pursuits and proposals.
• Work directly with utilities, customers, EPC contractors, consultants, and vendors to define project scope and technical requirements.
• Develop solutions for hydro modernization, rehabilitation, brownfield, and greenfield projects.
• Support large capital and EPC projects, including technical concepts, cost estimates, preliminary schedules, and contractor/vendor requirements.
• Help define DCS, PLC, SCADA, instrumentation, automation, and plant control system requirements.
• Partner with sales, proposals, engineering, and execution teams to develop technical solutions.
• Participate in customer meetings and occasional site walkdowns.

Background

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering preferred; additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• 10+ years of hydropower / hydroelectric industry experience.
• Strong knowledge of hydroelectric generation, hydro facilities, and power generation systems.
• Experience with large capital, EPC, modernization, rehabilitation, or plant upgrade projects.
• Strong customer-facing technical communication skills.
• Familiarity with DCS, SCADA, PLCs, controls, automation, and instrumentation.
• Ability to travel approximately 20%.

Experience with turbine-generator systems, governors, excitation, protection systems, substations, Ovation, ABB, Honeywell, Yokogawa, GE, or other DCS/control platforms is a plus.
