What they need

The Operations Integrator SME is a senior operations integration and planning professional responsible for translating strategic national defense priorities into coordinated, executable operational plans, concepts, and mission options.

Serving as an embedded advisor to mission teams and senior leaders, the SME integrates Department of War (DoW), Intelligence Community (IC), Interagency (IA), and Law Enforcement (LE) capabilities, authorities, and activities to advance mission objectives. The role requires close coordination across diverse government, operational, intelligence, technical, and private-sector partners to identify opportunities, resolve conflicts, synchronize activities, and generate actionable options for senior decision-makers.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in operational integration, compartmented planning, capability development and integration, and cross-organizational mission coordination, with the judgment and communication skills necessary to operate effectively in sensitive and complex national security environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a senior operations integration and planning advisor to mission teams, operational leaders, and government stakeholders.
  • Translate strategic objectives and national-level priorities into actionable operational plans, concepts, requirements, and courses of action.
  • Integrate DoW, IC, interagency, and law enforcement capabilities, authorities, activities, and resources to support mission objectives.
  • Develop and coordinate compartmented operational plans while ensuring appropriate synchronization, deconfliction, and information protection.
  • Identify mission gaps and opportunities and develop executable options that integrate operational, intelligence, technical, and partner capabilities.
  • Support capability development and integration by translating operational needs into requirements and connecting mission teams with relevant government and commercial solutions.
  • Coordinate and deconflict activities across government organizations, operational components, intelligence partners, law enforcement entities, and private-sector stakeholders.
  • Plan and conduct external engagements with mission partners, technical organizations, industry, and other stakeholders to advance operational objectives.
  • Facilitate cross-functional planning sessions, working groups, operational reviews, and senior leader engagements to drive alignment and decision-making.
  • Develop concise operational assessments, briefings, decision-support products, and recommendations that clearly articulate options, risks, dependencies, authorities, and resource requirements.

Required Qualifications:

  • 20+ years experience within the DoW, Intelligence Community, Joint Staff, Combatant Commands, Service components, special operations organizations, law enforcement, or other national security organizations.
  • Demonstrated expertise in operational integration, operational planning, mission coordination, or campaign planning.
  • Experience supporting compartmented, sensitive, or special-access planning environments.
  • Strong understanding of operational planning processes, authorities, command relationships, mission dependencies, and risk considerations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience developing senior-level briefings and decision-support products.
  • Ability to operate independently and exercise sound judgment in high-tempo, ambiguous, and sensitive mission environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting Joint or interagency planning processes, operational design, campaign planning, or mission analysis.
  • Experience coordinating activities that span military, intelligence, interagency, law enforcement, and commercial partners.
  • Experience developing or integrating emerging operational, intelligence, cyber, data, or technical capabilities.
  • Experience working with private-sector technology companies, research organizations, or non-traditional mission partners.
  • Experience facilitating senior-level planning sessions, operational working groups, or cross-functional mission teams.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, technology, engineering, national security, international relations, public policy, economics, or a related field; equivalent commercial, government, military, or technical experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Clearance Requirements: Current TS/SCI clearance required.
