Meedan is a nonprofit organization dedicated to developing digital tools and community-led programs that improve the accessibility, reliability, and distribution of information—where and when people need it most. As a Machine Learning Engineer/Researcher, I have contributed to Meedan’s open-source projects, including: https://github.com/meedan/check – A verification tool for fact-checking and collaborative investigations. https://github.com/meedan/alegre – A multilingual/multimodal similarity search engine for content analysis. https://github.com/meedan/presto – A tool for serving AI models. I have developed machine learning models for text, image, audio, and video similarity, enabling advanced content matching and verification across different media types. Additionally, I co-published this research (https://academic.oup.com/ijpor/article/36/3/edae032/7709027) and contributed to NLP models such as: https://huggingface.co/meedan/paraphrase-filipino-mpnet-base-v2 – An embedding language model for Filipino and Tagalog https://huggingface.co/meedan/brazilianpolitics – A binary classifier that classifies whether an input text is related to the Brazilian elections.

I co-founded Pigro.ai as CTO, leading both the technical development and AI engineering of the company. Pigro started in Italy in 2018 as a chatbot engine for enterprises, featuring an advanced algorithm capable of seamlessly extracting data from multiple documents and sources. Over time, we evolved into a provider of enterprise search and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems, enabling organizations to access and interact with information through various interfaces, including chatbots. We collaborated with large enterprises in Italy and Switzerland, including MSC, BNP Paribas, Sky, Amadori, and several Italian municipalities. Key Responsibilities: 🔹 AI Research & Development – Designed and implemented machine learning & deep learning models for: Automated Question Answering, Text Classification, Automated Question Generation, and Text Summarization 🔹 Technical & Product Strategy – Defined and executed Pigro’s engineering roadmap, ensuring scalable and efficient AI solutions aligned with business objectives. 🔹 Business Development & Company Strategy – Played a key role in shaping the startup’s strategy, engaging with clients and investors, identifying market opportunities, and refining Pigro’s AI-driven value proposition. 🔹 Team Management – Built and led a remote engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.

I had the opportunity to conduct my master’s thesis in collaboration with Deepset, under the supervision of Prof. Aris Anagnostopoulos (Sapienza University) and Mr. Timo Möller (Deepset). 🔹 Thesis Title: Applications of Cross-Lingual Language Models in Question-Answering Systems In this research, we explored the potential of cross-lingual language models for question-answering tasks, focusing on low-resource languages. Using English and Spanish datasets, we trained models that leverage a combination of: ✅ Training data in the target language ✅ Machine-translated datasets Our approach outperformed the state-of-the-art (SOTA) at the time across multiple evaluation benchmarks, demonstrating the effectiveness of multilingual learning techniques in improving QA systems for less-supported languages. Used Deepset's FARM library.

Data scientist, deep learning, and machine learning engineer. List of technologies I already worked on: - General machine learning and data science. Using R or Python and Spark for handling big data and cloud services such as AWS, AWS Sagemaker, and Google's Cloud AI - Deep Learning, with deeper experience with sequential models, transfer learning, and NLP. I use Keras, Pytorch, and Tensorflow. - Time series analysis, using statistical models, deep learning, and hybrid models. - Music generation and Musical Information Retrieval. Part of a freelance iOS application to turn humming and tabs into music. I worked with a team of iOS engineers and music producers. The part of music composition is written in Python using music theory concepts not by using deep learning models.

Worked as a freelance software developer. Mainly as a mobile developer. Worked for clients in Italy, Dubai, the US, and the UK. I had the advantage of the ability to integrate myself efficiently within a new team and an existing project and provide help immediately. So, although I had built apps through the whole development life cycle, I pivoted my specialty to the rule of helping clients who need immediate help with their projects. Some of the clients I helped in such a way had an upcoming deadline, the main project developer couldn't continue and needed to replace her, or lack of knowledge and mentorship.

Working on company's products mainly as a mobile developer with ownership over mobile software projects life cycle starting from planning to client boarding. I worked for WM360 before it became part of Reply and renamed to WM Reply

6 months GIP program through AIESEC Managing the implementation of IT projects, with more focus on mobile apps. Consulting for the business team on the feasibility of the projects. Managing the communication with the client and the other stakeholders.
