EUROCONTROL (European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation)

Oct 2023 - Present

3 years 1 month

Paris, France

– I'm a staff member of the core EUROCONTROL team responsible of developing Steerin, the modernization of ESCAPE, the standard European air traffic management real-time Air Traffic Control simulation platform. – Designed and developed the 'Tracker Emulator' component, fetching aircraft and flight data from an upstream service and generating realistic ground tracks, including smoothing and noise reduction using a Kalman filter. – Partecipating in the development of a new audio system for the simulator, powered by LiveKit/Web RTC. Writing requirements, interacting with architects, surveying the old codebase, migrating logic to a new microservices-based architecture. Designed and standardized data schemas for both inter-service payloads and external interfaces. – Designed and developed a 'Developer portal' in ReactJS, exposing documentation, API (OpenAPI), web-sockets (AsyncAPI) specifications from 20 different components. Wrote automating pipelines for crawling, validating, populating, versioning and publishing artifacts from upstream services, enabling them to remain independent. – Design, evaluation, test and improvements of new DevOps and GitOps pipelines, targeting the Azure ecosystem. Partecipating in sprints and retrospectives with external contractors involved in de-risking activities. Reviewing their deliverables and providing technical guidance. – Design container images, Helm Charts and CI/CD pipelines to deploy staging and production instances on Azure Kubernetes Service. – Designed and implemented a RESTful Java Spring backend analytics module to capture detailed usage statistics and performance metrics for audio channels, exposing the API via an event-driven architecture using NATS. – Responsible for packaging, modernising and releasing as Open Source pyBADA, a Python library for aircraft performance modelling, trajectory prediction and optimisation, and visualisation with BADA. Put in place development standards, packaged the library, added unit tests, wrote CI/CD pipelines and designed the new website exposing documentation and user guides. I led the open source launch and I'm now responsible of the maintainance.
