Hur (حُر, Arabic for "free") is an Android digital wellbeing app I built solo, end to end, for young Arabic-speaking adults trying to fight their own desire. Bilingual Arabic and English with proper right-to-left layout. Live in production with working subscriptions. What it does:- When you open a distracting app, a blocker screen takes over with a countdown before the close button works. The point is to turn a reflex into a deliberate choice.- Explicit content is blocked across the whole device, not inside one browser.- A focus mode runs timed sessions that block the apps you choose for the duration.- An uninstall protection keeps the app alive through a moment of weakness, with a clear way out for users who really mean it.- An accountability partner is notified when you bypass a block, adding social friction on top of technical friction.- The blocker screen, its countdown, and its redirect URL are user-configurable.- Settings and blocklists sync to the user's account.- The premium tier is live with a real paywall and restore flow. What I owned: the whole vertical. Mobile app, native blocking layer, backend sync, payments, visual design, and the copy in two languages. No teammates.Decisions worth calling out: 1. Personal, not family. This product assumes an adult choosing to fight their own attention, not a parent monitoring a child. That one decision ruled out a whole class of features and shaped the tone of every screen.2. Arabic first, with proper RTL. A real Arabic experience, not a translated English app.3. Anti-impulse as a product principle. The user at 11pm is not the user at 11am. The app serves the harder of the two.4. Tracer-bullet shipping. The premium tier landed as eleven small pull requests instead of one big release. Each one ran end to end on its own.5. One source of truth for whether the user has paid. Two parts of the app cannot disagree about it any more. The stack: TypeScript, React Native on Expo, a custom native Android module, Firebase, RevenueCat, Jest.

A solo-built Android wellbeing app for young Arabic-speaking adults struggling with digital addiction. Full vertical: a React Native + TypeScript app, a custom Kotlin native module (AccessibilityService, overlays, device-admin), Firebase auth/Firestore, and a RevenueCat-powered premium tier — designed, engineered, and shipped end-to-end.
