The exhibition Where the Day Begins, presented at the LaM from 2 October 2015 to 10 January 2016 as part of lille3000 – Renaissance, takes the form of a poetic itinerary on the theme of individual emancipation through (re)cognition of the world around us. Taking its cue from Homer’s Odyssey and Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy, as well as from contemporary role-playing, the unrivalled visual narrative invites visitors to go on a sensitive, mysterious journey that reveals, from one work to the next, human beings’ perception and awareness of knowledge, symbols, nature, the body, creation, space, and time. Chosen for its evocative power within the narrative that serves as a framework for the project, the remarkable collection develops through twelve chapters preceded by a prologue and followed by an epilogue.
