For this mission, I'm in charge in setting up a DRP that can cope with a complete destruction of our infrastructure on Azure (including customer data). This mission has several steps: - put in place a backup of customer data outside of Azure, on top of the backups managed by Azure - update the process to restore customer data from external backup - write Terraform descriptions of all our Azure resources - run our deployment and recovery tools from Terraform With Terraform, the deployment of a new cluster with its Azure dependencies, customer instances and data restoration is done with few commands.

This mission was done for a local company who wishes to stay anonymous. My first task was the migration of 400 domains from a local Power DNS to Cloudflare. For this, I've created an idempotent script that connected to OVH and Cloudflare APIs, used whois and DNS information to detect inconsistencies and, if possible, migrated the DNS records to CloudFlare. (Perl script using Mojo::UserAgent and OVH client) The other tasks were: - maintain the existing VMs based on Debian and Ubuntu, hosted on vSphere - maintain the Terraform files and Ansibles recipes used to deploy new VMs - investigate email issues. - help the developers investigate Symfony and PHP issues. - advise management on the possible infrastructure evolutions (pro and cons of Cloud or Kubernetes solutions compared to vSphere) - create an infrastructure POC on AWS with Terraform. - knowledge transfer with new hired DevOps.

For this mission, I've setup CI/CD, a MySQL database and an AKS cluster using Helm charts. The CD chain deploys a new instance of the application whenever a feature branch is created. When this branch is deleted, the ACR, DB and the instance in kubernetes are cleaned up to reduce resource usage.

My first freelance mission was mostly ops: The first part was dedicated to stabilize an existing Kubernetes infrastructure. With customer approval, the application was then migrated on Azure Kubernetes. The multitenant feature of the application required the creation of a dedicated Helm chart to install and update the application. The migration also involved migration of client files on a shared volume (AzureFile) and the migration of a MongoDB instance on ScaleGrid.

Realized a prototype of a communicating digital photo frame (DPF) for a startup project to create a digital photo frame whose content is controlled by a remote user with his browser. The project involved: ◦ A prototype of an embedded display manager written in Perl using Moose, SDL, SQLite, AnyEvent to display photos and control interaction with user. Communication with the server was done with websocket using Mojolicious. ◦ A prototype of a web app to upload and view a photo collection to a web server. The app is written in Javascript (EnyoJS) using websocket to communicate with the server. ◦ A web server prototype to handle photo collections and send photos to DPFs. The server is written in Perl using asynchronous calls with AnyEvent and Mojolicious. Data storage is done with MySQL, MongoDB and DBIx::Class ◦ A revival of Debian SDL packaging team to have up-to-date dependencies. ◦ Bug and memory leak fixes in Perl SDL library at Perl and C level (XS interface). ◦ An investigation of a DFP user interface adapted for elderly people. ◦ A DPF POC made with Olimex’s OlinuXino ARM card using Debian armhf distribution ◦ A estimation of the BOM and the feasibility of a small production run with potential providers. ◦ An investigation of a subscription based business model. ◦ An assesment of required funding to start the first production runs.

Performing integration and publication of artifacts manually is not fun, so I've designed an integration and publication system using Perl, MySQL, DBIx::Class ORM, HTML5, CSS3, web scraping, XML, REST, Fuse, Expect and git technologies. The main points of this solution are described in French GNU/Linux magazine.
