About me

Intro

I'm an engineering leader who builds platforms — and the teams behind them. Over 20 years in engineering and 10+ years leading teams, I've kept coming back to the same craft: turning messy, high-traffic, data-intensive systems into reliable platforms that other engineers love to build on. I've done this across very different worlds — adtech and e-commerce at scale, data and AI consulting for large French enterprises, commodity intelligence as a scale-up went from ~100 to 750+ people

Staff Data Engineer — Data Platform & Large-Scale Processing (AWS, Kubernetes)

Hydrosat

Aug 2025 - Present

1 year 3 months

Luxembourg

Hydrosat is a geospatial data analytics company using thermal-infrared satellite imagery to measure crop water stress and optimize agricultural productivity, serving agribusiness, finance, government and defense customers. I joined as Staff Data Engineer to build the company's next-generation data platform from scratch on AWS/Kubernetes, replacing the legacy stack — processing high-volume satellite imagery (Sentinel-2, Landsat, VIIRS) into customer-facing analyses. 🧭 Leadership & influence ▸ Championed and built the data platform's observability from scratch (with my management's backing): central collector, OpenTelemetry, RED dashboards, alerting and distributed tracing. My recommendation led the org to adopt Grafana Cloud. ▸ Drove engineering practices org-wide: the shift from Dagster to Airflow for large-scale processing, GitOps (ArgoCD + GitHub Actions) with reusable workflows, inner-source, incremental SDLC, TDD and Clean Code/SOLID, and technical writing (docs, RFCs) that eases onboarding as we scale hiring. ▸ Active in hiring: technical tests, interviews and home-test validation, reading weak signals to tell real candidate work from AI output. 🧱 Platform & data infrastructure ▸ Designed the target pipeline architecture — task-agnostic, scalable, cost-optimized (near-zero cost at idle, auto-scaling for peaks): Airflow, containerized apps, KubernetesPodOperator and Karpenter; each app independently unit-testable, decoupled from Airflow. Built as a product for data engineers (orchestration) and data scientists (the algorithms behind customer-facing KPIs). ▸ Defined the AWS networking plan (VPC, CIDR) and a geospatial batch system partitioning daily KPI computation across fields. 🤖 AI-augmented engineering ▸ Use agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, Copilot) for PoCs, IaC/Terraform, self-review and candidate-review support; use MCP to automate context and ticket/PR creation. ▸ Share agentic practices across the org (AGENTS.md, skills, MCP)

Staff Data Engineer — Data & MLOps Platform (AWS, Kubernetes)

Kpler

Jan 2021 - Jul 2025

4 years 7 months

Paris, France

Kpler is a market-leading commodity intelligence platform giving traders, shipping and financial players real-time visibility on global commodity flows across 40+ markets (oil, LNG, power, metals, agriculture), built on satellite, AIS and proprietary data. I joined this fast-growing scale-up at ~100 employees as Staff Data Engineer and grew into founding and managing its MLOps squad, building the platforms and culture that industrialized AI/data use cases while Kpler scaled past 750 and crossed $100M ARR through 8 acquisitions. 🧭 Leadership, people management & influence ▸ Founded Kpler's MLOps squad: pitched and secured its creation with C-level (backed by my Engineering Manager), proving the value of faster, safer AI/data industrialization. ▸ Directly managed the squad: 1:1s, OKRs, performance reviews (9-box grid), career development, reporting to leadership. ▸ Owned end-to-end hiring: skill definition, tests, interviews and validation. 🧱 Platform Engineering & DevEx ▸ Built Kpler's MLOps platform from scratch: self-service training (GPU), deployment and inference for models in prod, on AWS EKS with Terraform, GitOps and CI/CD; on Aurora PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch. ▸ Built a self-service Data platform on Airflow for analysts to industrialize BI/reporting, wiring data marts and KPIs to company stores, monitored and security-compliant. ▸ Drove DevEx and GitOps: reusable GitHub composite actions & workflows, Helm charts, and an in-house framework of shared modules (helpers, observability, alerting), with standardized packaging, release and SDLC. ⚡ Reliability & engineering culture ▸ Joined the platform-wide on-call rotation: live debugging, fixes and service restoration, with clear stakeholder communication. ▸ Created and ran blameless post-mortems for root-cause analysis and continuous improvement. ▸ Championed observability and "you build it, you run it", bridging R&D with 24/7 operational excellence so data scientists owned their use cases in production.

Data & Solution Architect — Cloud & AI Architecture Consultant (GCP, AWS)

Quantmetry (now Part of Capgemini Invent)

Apr 2018 - Dec 2020

2 years 9 months

Paris, France

Quantmetry is a pioneering independent French AI/data science consultancy (now part of Capgemini Invent). As Data & Solution Architect, I designed cloud and AI/ML target architectures and migration roadmaps for major French enterprises. Google Cloud Certified — Professional Cloud Architect. 🧭 Leadership, people management & influence ▸ Managed a Big Data Engineer intern end to end — performance reviews and career development via a two-axis (9-box-style) performance grid, weighing results against assignment difficulty and grade expectations. ▸ Wrote 360° performance reviews for colleagues I mentored on missions. ▸ Authored several Quantmetry blog articles, incl. its #1 most-read of 2018 (a Kubernetes overview); wrote chapter 3 of its 5th white paper, covering MLOps (re)training automation across code, architecture and delivery, with a 20-min companion talk. ⚡ Platform & data architecture (selected missions) ▸ Architected layered "medallion" data lakes (raw -> cleaned/quality/prepared/feature engineering -> aggregated business rules) as a recurring blueprint across missions (Kering, EDF, La Sacem, OFI, CFM), on AWS (S3) and GCP (GCS). ▸ Kering — initiated a group-wide AI Platform-as-a-Service on AWS, on a unified S3 data lake serving the group's brands. ▸ Gustave Roussy — secure multi-tenant AI platform on AWS for a 2-month challenge: equal GPU compute for 20+ teams, clinical data in an HDS-compliant environment, locked against any exfiltration. ▸ EDF Renouvelables — 100% serverless, near-real-time IoT platform on AWS for energy-production KPIs at global scale (20 countries, 8,000 wind turbines, 25,000 solar/PV units + batteries). ▸ La Sacem & CFM — target AWS S3 data-lake architectures (CFM: API-based access and caching). ▸ Swiss Life — on-premise-to-AWS transition support and team upskilling. ▸ Euralis — ML-driven next-gen BI PoC on GCP pitched to C-level. ▸ OFI AM — ~10 GCP enablement workshops (Airflow on Composer, IaC/Terraform, IAM, Azure AD Federation).

Senior Data Engineer — Cloud & DevOps (GCP, AWS)

Ysance (now part of Devoteam Data Driven)

Sep 2016 - Mar 2018

1 year 7 months

Paris, France

Senior engineer on Ysance's Data Management Platform (DMP), the "Digital Data Factory": a multi-tenant marketing SaaS that reconciles each brand's online, offline and mobile customer data into a single, real-time customer view, then activates audience segments across CRM, campaign-management, eCommerce and ad/retargeting systems via web services. Used by major French retail and enterprise brands. Main contributor within a 15+ developer product team working in Scrum. 🧭 Technical leadership & mentoring ▸ Paired with and mentored data scientists (including the Data Science Manager) and a data engineer — sharing engineering best practices and design patterns, and bringing their code up to production standards. ▸ Drove engineering standards and developer experience across the team: PEP8 code quality, CI workflows, configuration & secrets management, packaging & release management, containerization (Docker), and logging/observability. ▸ Gave the team a Docker stack to run the full Airflow environment locally — no need to install every service on each workstation. ⚡ Data engineering & scale ▸ Industrialized data scientists' PoC code into production — making it scale and run reliably for every client (multi-tenant), with the engineering rigor it lacked. ▸ Built the daily batch pipeline on self-hosted Airflow (Hortonworks on GCP): one DAG refreshed the BigQuery lakehouse with idempotent, self-recovering tasks (data consistency was critical — each day's "Stories" derive from the previous day's data); a second DAG computed the "Stories" and served the results per client. ELT across multi-cloud storage and SQL engines (GCS, AWS S3, Redshift, BigQuery), with distributed compute on Google Cloud ML Engine running the Stories app as a Docker image — multi-cloud from 2016. ▸ Built the real-time stream-processing app (Scala + Spark Streaming) matching desktop and mobile tracker events to an in-house identity-resolution algorithm.

Founder — career transition to Data Engineering

My ManticFreelance

Apr 2015 - Aug 2016

1 year 5 months

Paris, France

A transition period: founded my own company while completing my CNAM Engineering degree (2016) and reskilling into Data Engineering — the pivot that shaped the next decade of my career.

Engineering Manager

Rue Du Commerce (now part of LDLC)

Jul 2012 - Jul 2015

3 years 1 month

93400 Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine, France

Owned the Front Office of one of France's leading e-commerce platforms at the time (~€423M annual GMV, incl. ~€135M marketplace across 750 merchants; 8M customers, 6M unique monthly visitors). Led the team behind the product pages — the site's primary entry point and its most conversion-critical surface. 🧭 People & technical leadership ▸ Led and grew a team of 5 engineers — 1:1s, annual reviews, SMART goals, motivation and accountability. ▸ Interfaced between the dev team and the wider organization (IT, Marketing, Web Analytics/Data, Design), aligning priorities into a single roadmap; reported choices and trade-offs to senior leadership. ▸ Owned hiring (ran a full recruitment loop solo) and handled people-management cases with HR and the Director of Engineering. ▸ Introduced the organization's first Agile workflows on my initiative; as JIRA admin, designed two flows — a long-cycle project flow with cross-functional validation gates and a fast-track flow for bugs/blockers. ▸ Steered Front Office architecture with software architects and the Head of Platform, balancing scalability, performance and delivery under peak traffic. ⚡ Performance & scale ▸ Led the full re-architecture of the product pages: microservices exposing data via REST APIs on a template-engine front-end, SEO-optimized. ▸ Engineered low-latency rendering under heavy traffic via multi-layer caching — Redis on the backend for hot data, CDN at the edge — with CDN invalidation propagating versioned JS/CSS assets immediately per release. ▸ Wired pages to real-time business signals: stock availability, delivery lead times and promotional merchandising. ▸ Shipped the redesign in Nov 2013; weeks later, the surface I owned carried the company's all-time single-day sales record (~€5.2M group GMV at peak holiday load, announced by the CEO). ▸ Stepped in hands-on during major incidents to restore service fast.

Team Lead — Cloud, Data & DevOps Engineering (AWS)

BlogBang (Startup backed by Publicis Groupe)

Mar 2009 - Jul 2012

3 years 5 months

Paris, France

Publicis Groupe-backed adtech startup running a long-tail social advertising network, reaching 21M unique monthly visitors via video broadcast, fully on AWS from 2009 (early cloud adoption). Led and co-built key parts of the platform within a 20+ engineer organization. 🧭 People & technical leadership ▸ Managed a team of 4 engineers (2 consultants, 2 juniors) — running annual reviews and supporting their growth. ▸ Steered the product roadmap and owned the architecture decisions across the systems my team built. ▸ On my own initiative, introduced Redmine as the organization's project-management platform — self-hosted and rolled out company-wide, from leadership pitch to request triage and initial backlog. ⚡ Engineering & scale ▸ Ad server: co-built and operated the in-house ad server — engineered for security, high availability, low latency and scale under heavy traffic; delivered premium ad formats for major brands (LVMH, Sony, Renault, Ubisoft, Paramount). ▸ Real-time data: built pipelines capturing thousands of ad-interaction data points per visitor with zero added latency; powered billing, KPIs, RTB/ad-exchange and real-time + batch dashboards. ▸ Video encoding platform: built from scratch an FFmpeg-based multi-bitrate platform (5 renditions, 144p–1080p) with auto-computed compression presets and format-independent ingest (any source, incl. ~1GB raw ProRes) — removing reliance on client formats. Exposed via a secure web UI and a REST API the ad server called to auto-encode campaign videos, on a Hadoop-inspired distributed architecture orchestrating AWS instances via the SDK (before Kubernetes). A self-initiated HTML5-playback study cut video start time by ~0.5s — a key engagement lever. ▸ Media portal: led a trending-news portal auto-generated by scraping bloggers' articles (text, images, video) — indexed, tag-classified and optimized for Google (load speed, SEO) to surface buzz and viral content.

Fullstack Software Engineer

SQLI

Jun 2007 - Mar 2009

1 year 10 months

Saint-Denis, France

I joined SQLI Group when it acquired IconeWeb — then the market leader in digital solutions (websites, e-datarooms) for the enterprise real-estate sector — which became SQLI Immobilier. Already part of the team before the acquisition, I carried on with the same clients and projects; my track record led me to take ownership of the entity's premium clients (incl. the VINCI and Crédit Mutuel groups) and to work on software-architecture topics aimed at improving the speed and performance of the websites we built. Worked under a CMMI process methodology. ▸ Front-end & back-end development of multilingual corporate websites for real-estate leaders (Ataraxia / Crédit Mutuel, Groupama Immobilier, SOGEPROM / Société Générale, VINCI Immobilier), plus a collaborative DataRoom SaaS (clients incl. Gide Loyrette Nouel, Wargny Katz, UFG — now La Française AM). ▸ Synced each site's listing catalog with the client's CRM via APIs — removing double data entry while letting the site add exclusive content (visuals, floor plans, videos). ▸ On my own initiative, structured how we built sites: introduced an ORM, a template engine, and AJAX to update pages without reloads — laying engineering foundations the team lacked. ▸ Spent a month in Casablanca (my initiative) training our ~5-person offshore team: wrote the training material, ran hands-on workshops and post-mortems on recent deliveries, to industrialize HTML/CSS/JS integration and speed up delivery. ▸ Expert mission for a leading online press publisher: built an article-publishing system.

Web Developer / DevOps

IconeWeb Multimédia (acquired by SQLI)

Dec 2005 - May 2007

1 year 6 months

Paris, France

IconeWeb was a startup that became the market leader in digital solutions for the enterprise real-estate sector, building corporate websites and e-datarooms (used by notaries and lawyers) for property players. The company was acquired by SQLI Group in 2007 and became SQLI Immobilier. ▸ Front-end & back-end development of real-estate web applications — far beyond brochure sites: listing search engine, email alerts, client area for saved criteria, an admin back-office to enrich listings (visuals, Google Maps, downloadable floor plans), and CRM integration via APIs pulling program data straight from clients' systems. ▸ Built dynamic, interactive interfaces with JavaScript, CSS and AJAX — updating pages without full reloads for a smoother user experience.
