During this intense two-semester course, I learnt the fundamentals of quantum computing, which enabled me to code quantum gates and circuits, implement quantum algorithms, and even run code on a real quantum computer. I took part in research with QMUL and NASA, appointed as research lead. Through my research, I learned the fundamentals of Matplotlib and Numpy. I applied my newly developed skills to write routines that analysed data from the NASA Kepler and TESS missions using simplified algorithms. The light curves I analysed were obtained from the Kepler and TESS spacecraft, and I determined key physical parameters of planetary systems including orbital periods, orbital inclinations to the line of sight, orbital semi-major axes, and physical radii of planets. I was also able to learn about fitting models to data and techniques for optimising the accuracy of these models. From my analysis, I drew conclusions about the observed population of exoplanets, and I assessed whether or not they resembled planets in our Solar System. As I progressed, I took my research further, exploring complex issues such as how dynamical interactions between planets in multi-planet systems could be detected in the data.
