B.tech Thesis Project Manufacturing Facility: Sanand Vehicle Assembly and Engine Plant Department: Power Train Operations • Improved overall engine assembly line utilization from 82% to 83% via non-value added activities reduction, workstation methodization, and periodic job observation • Conducted engine assembly line balancing and re-balancing • Conceptualized, designed and assembled a mechanical rotor arm based on engine working face, appearing frequency analysis • Undertook a thorough literature review on process improvements on different types of assembly lines

Industrial and Systems Engineering Department Project I - A decision support system for railroad car allocation and distribution Area of Study: Freight routing, blocking, train routing, makeup, scheduling, wagon type, and dimensions. Locomotive and wagon assignment to the destination within a permissible time window, load constraints, and existing network capacity. Milestones: • To optimize empty railroad car miles, empty trips and empty railroad car days without reduction in the percentage of demand satisfied, thus reducing transportation cost, improving delivery time and customer satisfaction • Development and implementation of the integrated routing-assignment model for achieving lowest repositioning cost and real time decision making • Upgrading of existing goods sheds and promoting multi-commodity and multi-modal logistics terminals to reduce terminal time Project II - A study on Last Mile Delivery in rural areas Area of Study: Delivery chain, operations, optimized routing, push and pull centric systems, reverse logistics, supply chain, last-mile cost, time, and integration of Indian Postal Service network in last-mile delivery. Milestones: • To develop a mathematical model that integrates Postal Services and e-commerce, to facilitate home deliveries in rural areas and reduce last mile cost • Model formation where nearest town centre for a cluster of villages may perform last mile delivery by using essential commodities transportation affair to minimize cost and maximize delivery frequency • To propose a model forming service firm where people can place order and firm should deliver at doorstep with nominal charges to increase customer service level and faster delivery
