About me
Intro
I’m a Product Designer operating at founding and principal level, with 15+ years’ experience designing and owning complex SaaS products across startup, scale-up, and enterprise environments. I’m often brought in as the first or most senior designer to help teams make sense of complexity, shape product direction, and build clear, scalable experiences. My work spans end-to-end product and service design, from early discovery and information architecture through to polished UI, design systems, and production delivery. I’ve led design on data-heavy platforms, AI-powered tools, and enterprise systems where clarity, trust, and usability really matter. This includes designing complex workflows, dashboards, and AI-assisted features, and working closely with product, engineering, and commercial teams to align user needs with business goals. Alongside core product work, I regularly contribute to brand and marketing design, helping ensure consistency across SaaS platforms, websites, onboarding, and customer-facing touchpoints. I care deeply about structure, hierarchy, and systems that make products easier to use and easier to evolve. I’m hands-on, pragmatic, and comfortable working in ambiguity. I enjoy partnering with founders and senior stakeholders, moving quickly without losing quality, and leaving teams with stronger foundations than when I arrived. Recent work includes founding and principal design roles at BriefBox, leading AI-driven product design at Phrasee (now Jacquard), and enterprise UX leadership at Oracle. Ross designed the UX and core UI foundations for two major consumer apps within Rank Interactive’s digital portfolio, working across iOS and Android for mobile and tablet devices. His work established the underlying structure, navigation, workflows, and interaction patterns that the final visual designers later built upon. Mecca Bingo (iOS & Android Tablet App) Ross designed the full UX and structural UI for the Mecca Bingo tablet app, including information architecture, navigation, user flows, interaction logic, and large-screen layout systems. He created detailed wireframes, prototypes, and documentation that guided the final UI design phase and supported the app’s successful launch across both platforms. Grosvenor Casinos (iOS & Android — Mobile & Tablet) He also designed the UX and foundational UI for the Grosvenor Casinos app, covering venue discovery, event browsing, account tools, and mobile gaming experiences. Ross defined the IA, navigation models, component patterns, and multi-device layout logic that supported a consistent experience across phones and tablets. Final visual design was completed by a separate UI specialist based on Ross’s structured UX/UI framework. Across both apps, Ross collaborated closely with product managers, developers, and other designers to translate requirements into clear, scalable journeys. He clarified multi-step flows, improved feature discoverability, and ensured interaction consistency across device types and operating systems. His work helped establish more intuitive, structured, and engaging applications across Rank’s mobile portfolio, providing the UX and UI framework that powered the final visual designs and engineering delivery.
Senior Product, UX / UI Designer
Thomson Reuters
Oct 2012 - Oct 2013
1 year 1 month
Thomson Reuters, Swiss Cottage, London
Ross worked as a Senior UX/UI Designer on several major products within Thomson Reuters’ legal research ecosystem, including the redesign of Westlaw UK and Sweet & Maxwell as well as MAF Mobile, a mobile and tablet research tool for iOS and Android. His work focused on modernising legacy systems, improving clarity across dense legal content, and creating responsive, device-appropriate experiences for legal professionals who relied on fast, authoritative information. For MAF Mobile, Ross designed the end-to-end UX and foundational UI for a mobile and tablet application that gave lawyers on the move access to over 23 million legal documents, including legislation, cases, commentary, and precedents. He shaped navigation patterns, information hierarchy, interaction logic, and responsive layouts to ensure users could search, filter, compare, and read complex content efficiently on smaller screens. Alongside this, Ross contributed to the redesign of Westlaw UK and Sweet & Maxwell, helping translate complex research requirements and stakeholder input into clear user journeys and structured page layouts. He worked closely with business analysts, product partners, and legal SMEs to align designs with user needs, professional workflows, and the realities of legal research. He created responsive wireframes, journey maps, prototypes, and interaction patterns that improved readability, made navigation more predictable, and surfaced related content more effectively. Ross also provided visual direction and UI structure that supported the wider transition of these platforms into a more modern and responsive design system. His work improved the usability of high-volume legal research tools across devices, helping legal professionals access critical information with greater clarity and efficiency.
Innovation UX / UI Designer
O2 (Telefónica UK)
Nov 2011 - Oct 2012
1 year
Slough, UK
Ross worked as a UX/UI and interaction designer within Telefónica O2’s innovation team, designing and prototyping new product concepts across mobile, web, and experimental platforms. The team explored forward-thinking ideas, validated early product directions, and used the O2 network to create tools that could scale into future consumer offerings. He designed experiences for iOS and Android, producing user journeys, interaction models, prototypes, and foundational UI systems. His work blended creative experimentation with structured UX thinking, helping shape concepts that balanced user needs with emerging technology. Priority Moments Ross contributed to the redesign of the Priority Moments app, improving navigation, refining UI logic, and rethinking the homepage to make top offers easier to discover. He introduced clearer filtering, more intuitive layouts, and interaction patterns that demonstrated how the app could evolve into a more user-friendly product. Drive to Improve (O2 + Aviva) Ross designed flows and core UI for Drive to Improve, a telematics app created with Aviva Insurance. The tool used in-car black-box data to track driving behaviour, generate safety scores, and surface trends. He designed dashboards, reporting views, progress tracking, and the UX that helped drivers understand and improve their performance. CallTime (Innovation Concept) He designed CallTime, an experimental prototype that matched user availability to schedule calls seamlessly. Ross created the IA, full user flows, wireframes, and UI logic for both Android and iOS. The concept showed how network intelligence could simplify communication planning. Across all projects Ross contributed creative direction, rapid prototyping, multi-device UX, and close collaboration with product managers, engineers, and designers. His work helped shape O2’s exploration of new product categories and demonstrated how early ideas could evolve into scalable consumer experiences.

Panasonic In-Flight Entertainment Concept – Android Tablet Experience Ross worked as a UX/UI Designer with Mobile Interactive Group on a concept in-flight entertainment system for Panasonic, designing a full tablet-based experience intended for airline passengers. The project was showcased at an industry exhibition, where users could interact with the prototype in a mock aircraft seat setup and explore entertainment features that could shape future onboard experiences. Ross designed the end-to-end UX and UI foundation for the Android tablet interface, creating user journeys, navigation structures, wireframes, and UI layouts across a wide range of entertainment categories. These included movies, TV shows, music, albums, live news, games, shopping, and onboard services. He designed multi-step flows that allowed users to browse large media libraries, view content details, explore categories, and navigate between sections quickly and intuitively. Ross refined interaction patterns for large-screen touch devices, ensuring that browsing, previewing, and selecting content felt smooth, responsive, and modern. As the concept evolved, Ross explored alternate visual directions — from clean, minimal layouts to more expressive, colourful, 3D-inspired interfaces — adapting the UX structure to support new design themes requested by Panasonic. His work demonstrated how the IFE system could balance clarity, entertainment value, and visual impact. Throughout the project Ross collaborated closely with creative directors, developers, and Panasonic stakeholders to prototype and refine the experience. His work helped showcase what next-generation inflight entertainment could look and feel like, using tablet-based interactions instead of traditional seat-back systems.

Many of these products included supporting websites and admin tools, all of which Ross designed from scratch. His work spanned full product lifecycle activities, including information architecture, user journeys, wireframes, interaction patterns, visual direction, iconography, layout systems, and the design of responsive marketing sites and supporting materials. He established visual identities for multiple apps, ensuring consistency across brand, UI components, and platform behaviours. For Quickka Events, Ross designed both the mobile attendee app and the back-office web system that allowed organisers to generate event apps on the fly. This included admin dashboards, content management flows, and multi-template UI logic for rapid deployment. Across all projects, Ross combined UX thinking with clean, crafted interfaces that balanced clarity, speed, and personality. He collaborated directly with founders, engineers, and content teams, ensuring that each app shipped with a coherent user experience across both web and iOS devices.
