Introduction
As Head of Software at Sun Genomics, I oversee the architecture, delivery, and evolution of the company’s core digital platforms. I lead engineering and organizational efforts across a multi-system environment that includes the e-commerce platform, customer and practitioner portals, internal LIMS, formulation tools, and mobile applications. Working from Lyon, France, I coordinate a distributed external engineering team in India and collaborate daily with stakeholders in the United States. I operate in a fully remote, English-speaking startup environment where alignment between product, science, operations, and engineering is essential. My role bridges technical leadership, organizational structuring, and cross-team coordination. I translate business, scientific, and operational requirements into reliable, scalable, and secure software systems that support the company’s mission and growth. Before taking on the Head of Software position, I developed the company’s metagenomic pipeline and contributed to its broader bioinformatics initiatives, giving me a technical foundation that complements my current focus on engineering organization and platform strategy.

As the company’s sole bioinformatician during its early growth stage, I designed, implemented, and maintained Gutbuster, Sun Genomics’ metagenomics pipeline used to process customer stool samples and generate microbial profiles for personalized probiotic formulations. Pipeline Development & Scientific Computing • Built and optimized production-grade metagenomics workflows using Bash, R, and Perl. • Performed scientific validation to ensure accuracy and reproducibility of results in HIPAA-constrained environments. • Processed several hundred to several thousand samples during the company’s transition from research to production. Cloud-Based Data Processing • Managed compute and storage resources on AWS (EC2, S3) for scalable bioinformatics workloads. • Monitored resource usage and contributed to cost-aware cloud operations. • Ensured secure handling of sequencing data, metadata, and intermediate files. Cross-Functional Scientific Collaboration • Supported formulation and scientific teams by producing validated microbiome reports and taxonomic profiles. • Served as an early technical liaison between US-based stakeholders and the external development team as software platforms expanded.
