Introduction
In my PhD, I focus on understanding the formation of Non-Intentionally Added Substances (NIASs) in polypropylene-based plastic materials throughout their preparation, recycling, and aging processes (including UV and thermal aging). My goal is to identify and quantify these substances effectively. My research primarily involves identifying the main additives used in polypropylene, determining the optimal extraction solvents and methods, and establishing the most suitable extrusion conditions for blends that align with those used by major plastics manufacturers. I develop analytical methods utilizing techniques such as GC-FID, GC-MS, NMR, and FTIR to identify the chemical structures of NIASs and quantify their presence. To understand the impact of NIAS on PP, I also study the physical properties of PP by using SEC, ATG, DSC. In the subsequent phase, I apply these improved methods to the analysis of recycled and aged polypropylene to investigate how NIASs evolve during these processes. Building on the skills and expertise I developed during my thesis and previous experiences, I look forward to continuing my research on various types of polymer materials within different companies. I am committed to advancing my career in R&D and contributing to this field after my thesis (April 2025).

Supervisor: Véronique Coma and Étienne Grau During my PhD, I focused on understanding the formation of Non-Intentionally Added Substances (NIASs) in polypropylene (PP)-based plastic materials throughout their preparation, recycling, and aging processes (including UV and thermal aging). The goal of PhD project was to identify and quantify these substances effectively. The research primarily involved identifying the main additives used in PP, determining the optimal extraction solvents and methods, and establishing the most suitable extrusion conditions for blends consistent with those used by major plastics manufacturers. I developed analytical methods utilizing techniques such as GC-FID, GC-MS, NMR, and FTIR to identify the chemical structures of NIASs and quantify their presence. To understand the impact of NIAS on PP, I also studied the physical properties of PP using SEC, TGA, and DSC. In the subsequent phase, I applied these improved methods to the analysis of recycled and aged PP to investigate how NIASs evolved during these processes.
